    *** V6 Head Gasket Action Request ***

2004 (Will look it up and edit with info) 4X4 204,000 Number 4 Edit: For what it's worth, 200k miles is about when the problem started. Haven't replaced them yet. Was quoted $3,000 to fix it, so am considering selling it. I'm now at 218,000 miles and it's still running. My mechanic told me to...

    2004 Limited Edition 4Runner 4X4 - Head Gasket

Looks like I'm part of the club. 2004 4Runner SR5 4X4... Blown head gasket (problems with #4 cylinder) at about 204,000

Gas light - how many miles...

The longest I went was 30 (or maybe 40, it was awhile ago) PAST 0, and even then I was only able to fill-up 21.5 gallons, and that was squeezing after the fill-stop. The low-gas light is extremely conservative, at least in my 4Runner. However, 99% of my driving is highway.

OEM Panasonic Battery- how long has yours lasted?

My battery just died (the original OEM Panasonic). 2004 4Runner, V6 SR5 4X4. It died at 204,000 miles and lasted 10 years. Survived the Bozeman winter, and it was a LONG and cold winter. It started my 4Runner just fine with all of the sub-zero temps this winter, and even started up at West...

    grinding noise when coasting

Sorry to bump an old thread, but was this ever resolved? I have the exact same thing in my V6 '04. There is a slight grinding sound when I coast, or let off the gas. The faster I'm going the more noticeable the sound. It only happens while in 4hi or 4lo. Doesn't happen in 2hi. How much to...

New 4th gen owner I have a possible trans mission problem?

Maybe the computer is remembering the previous owner's driving habits. Try resetting it (unplug the battery for a few minutes), and see if that helps. If not, maybe a transmission flush/replace the tranny fluid.

    TTAC review

Toyota probably included luxury trims in the 4Runner and LC for mass market appeal. Everybody, even off-road enthusiasts, enjoy car-like amenities, and everybody enjoys a car-like ride until you take it off-road. The problem is, most people can't afford multiple vehicles, so they buy something...

    TTAC review

The author is saying it like it is.... The vast majority of off-roading (by the average person) can be handled by the likes of a Subaru Crosstrek. With that you get 8.7 inches of clearance and 33 MPG highway with full-time AWD. Yes, it's a lot smaller than a 4runner, but any crossover will be...

    pls advise: conventional or synthetic

The term "synthetic," when applied to motor oils, is a marketing term. I mean that literally, in a legal sense. It is a MARKETING term. The end user can determine the chemical differentiation by the oil's class. Mobil 1 is highly refined crude oil with undisclosed amounts of laboratory created...

    4th gen zerk help

Haven't greased my zerks in awhile, so tonight I climbed under and started greasing... When I got to the nipple that fills the front drive shaft, I gave it five squeezes (saw the driveshaft expand), and when I pulled the gun off of the fitting, greasing started streaming our for about ten...

    Looking to buy a 2007+ 4Runner

My 2 cents about the motor. Both are obviously great. The MPG vs power is proportional, so while V8 owners will try to exaggerate the power difference whilst downplaying the MPG difference, V6 owners will exaggerate the fuel consumption savings of the V6 whilst downplaying the extra power from...

Serious Snow Issues 2006 Sport Edition V8 4x4

Good deal. I'm still learning. The reason I consider it an open diff is because of how easy it is to get stuck with one tire in the air (or zero traction) compared to how easy it is to get out once the center is locked. Thanks for clearing up the distribution of power with a locked center...

Serious Snow Issues 2006 Sport Edition V8 4x4

Very true. It's a Torsen T3, and the manufacture calls it a traction differential. Torsen T-3 Differential However, in my experience, the center differential unit along with the wheel-slippage sensors can only do some much. What sparked my interest to learn about this was sitting stuck in...

Serious Snow Issues 2006 Sport Edition V8 4x4

Thanks for catching that; I missed the fact that he has a V8, even though it's right there in the title. The information is still pertinent. A V8 is always in H4, but the three differentials are still open until the center is locked. It's the same system as the V6, albeit without the option of...
