My First Time Experiencing "Limp Mode" and Have Problems & Questions...

I think that was the right call. Next time I took the 4Runner out, I got a fault about 5 minutes into the drive, cleared it, turned around, and got another right before the house. Went ahead and replaced it, no issues since.

My First Time Experiencing "Limp Mode" and Have Problems & Questions...

Piggybacking on this thread since I'm having the same exact problem. 2002 with 290k. Died suddenly while driving on surface streets. P1125 and P1128. Cleared them and it started back up. Drove home a few miles without issue. Started up fine the next day and did a few laps around the block...

    Rear Driveshaft Rebuild/Replace?

Well, I got the u joint installed. Took about 7 hours, partly due to stupid mistakes. The '96 slip yoke was a functional match (though not exactly identical - there are a few minor differences in the casting) but I didn't end up needing it. I had to use some heat and hammering in addition to...

    Rear Driveshaft Rebuild/Replace?

I have enough experience to feel like I could probably get the job done but also enough to know I might get stuck. The garage (and half of my tools) are at my parents' house about an hour away. That's why I'm looking for a temp fix - if I attempt the u-joint repair and something goes wrong, I...

    Rear Driveshaft Rebuild/Replace?

It's a bad U joint on the slip yoke, I jacked up the back and the joint is very sloppy. I'm looking into installing a new u joint in the original slip yoke or just getting a whole new driveshaft via Tom Woods. But I need a temp fix.

    Rear Driveshaft Rebuild/Replace?

related question that I didn't want to start a new thread for: Are slip yokes universal between all 4WD 3rd Gens? I know the rear drive shaft length is different between J-shifter and Multimode T-cases, but from what I can tell the slip yokes are the same. I'm hoping to throw a junkyard slip...

Should I keep my LT Tires?

I kinda realized that as I was writing it out... I was hoping someone would come in here with some mpg data that might make the decision easier. I always get wary when my personal experience doesn't with the expert consensus. Like, I'm probably underestimating how bad the city mileage is...

who is joe joe parts on facebook

I've never ordered from him, but I followed all the drama on the Mafia page. His claim that he doesn't make any money on this stuff is a huge red flag. That's clearly BS. Why lie about it? It's weird. From reading here and the FB group, it's clear a few people have been left waiting for a...

Should I keep my LT Tires?

I went to NTB a few days back to replace my P Rated Cooper RTX (265/75R16) - it's their version of the AT2. Turns out they installed the LT version of the tire by mistake (among other screw ups that I won't get into). They were closing but the guy offered to swap them for the P rated if I came...

2002 4Runner - Rusted Rear Upper Shock Mount

What were you getting quoted? My DS mount is in the process of rusting out, despite the fact the the frame is in quite good shape. The Snowbound mounts seem like the best option, since I'm close to stock (Billy 5100s + OME 906). I've been meaning to pick up welding, but this doesn't exactly...

    CV axle seals

I did give that method a shot but didn't have any luck. I may try again before giving up and going to a shop, but it's hard in the city with no off street parking... Thanks for the info on the Lexus plug though, gonna order a few of those and avoid this problem all together in the future.

    CV axle seals

Semi-related question but I didn't want to start a new thread. After coming back from a two day camping trip (with some relatively mild trails) I saw grease all over the passenger side front tire and noticed that the CV boot was ripped. I've only got 1" on the front, but with 250k on the...

Replacing trans filter and fluid on high mileage bad?

One of the experts can correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember reading that the ECU puts the shift point at higher RPMs until the trans fluid has warmed up. So it feels like the trans is reluctant to shift when in reality it's programed that way. I imagine a full fluid exchange would...
