I know this is an old thread. Did it ever get figured out? I have a 1999 with the 5vzfe V6. Same symptoms. Overheats on idle only. I have a new Gates T-Belt and Waterpump kit, new thermostat, I flushed the heater core, thought maybe it was clogged. No leaks whatsoever.
