Tacotunes nightmare from hell

Don't spend any more money until you get to the source of the issue. If the shop you're taking it to is getting paid to replace an amp, they're not gonna fix your phone problem because it's not in scope for them. Fix the root issue first, either yourself or pay someone to fix *that* problem...

    The LFD Off Road Thread

Mine have been working fine. I use the cross bars for a top box, bike racks, and a Yakima basket and swap out regularly. Could be a difference in carriage bolts. Sounds like you have something perfectly flush the with cross bar that that is not sitting flat due the the square boss protruding...

    The LFD Off Road Thread

I use 3/8-16 (NC) carriage bolts. The square boss near the head engages the crossbar slots nicely to prevent rotation while tightening the nuts. Someone earlier in the thread asked about a Megawarrior basket. I mount my basket to the LFD bars regularly. I removed the plastic clamps that came...

Magnuson Supercharger 2K Mile Review and 6K Mile Review

I'd like to get some feedback on this as well. We tow a pop-up camper, bicycles, two kids and a dog constantly. Over the Sierra Nevada many times per year. The truck is a pig for this use (but we still love it). S4 all day ends the hunting annoyance but god-damn! this truck is underpowered...

How many of you have replaced their plastic oil filter housing?

Replaced mine on first oil change. Just out of a preference for durable metal parts over plastic. Have seen too many plastic automotive parts become brittle over time. Was simple, available, and inexpensive so I did it. Jason

    Greasing the pig..what intervals?

OP, If you don't already have one, get a "quick release" tip/coupler for your grease gun (example). These lock on to and later release the zerk fitting with a simple spring-loaded lever. Why this matters? less grease leakage keeps coupler from popping off leaves two hands free to operate gun...

    Greasing the pig..what intervals?

Same here. Every 5K. NLGI #2 grease. Have got it down to a 10min job. I do take some care to wipe away the excess that comes out of the joints with a shop towel. Exposed grease draws dirt into the assembly. Jason

Possibly moving on from the 4runner

I had a lifted Cherokee when I lived in Brooklyn. Was perfect for that environment! Jason

    Towing - Leveling the 4Runner

Airbags. $120 in parts. 2 hours work you can do yourself. Has really stabilised towing for me. I measure the rear wheel well height, hook up the trailer, inflate bags to bet back to observed height. Works great. Jason

How good is the stock trailer hitch?

Ah, come on . . . who doesn't love pulling mountain passes in third gear at 35mph while the engine absolutely screams at 4k rpms? Good times. <we cross the Sierras with a pop-up behind our 4R many times per year> Jason

What's the factory roof rack good for?

The LFD cross bars are nice. HEAVY construction. Stainless. Quality install hardware provided. Good price. Subtle design too . . . doesn't look like you went shopping at BRovErLanDerS-R-US on the way home from the Toyota dealership. Have had mine packed to the gills camping in the Mojave and...

DIY 3.5" JL Audio dash speaker upgrade - Wow!! (detailed how-to)

I did not. My thinking at the time was that the Kicker Key amp will set the EQ as needed. Have installed that amp as of a couple months ago and something's still not right. Rear still sounds like mud despite now being amplified and having drivers changed out with nice ones. What the hell does...

Locking hitch pin that isn't junk?

Don't forget that it only works with stingers from the same manufacturer so you can throw all your existing 2" hitch parts away.

How do you guys connect awning lights?

12V is 12V. It doesn't care about connectors. I bought some IP-rated (don't remember the designation) garden wiring connectors from a supply house and made up a few pigtails for my lighting and other camping needs. All devices can be connected to all sources (camper house battery, solar panel...

DIY 3.5" JL Audio dash speaker upgrade - Wow!! (detailed how-to)

I spent the last couple weeks experimenting to get better sound from stock HU and wanted to share my experience in case anyone found it helpful. Originally installed the Subaru/Kicker tweeters in the dash position and 6x9 triaxials in the front doors. Too bright. No mids. Disconnected the the...
