Good time to replace it with a new one if you're doing any remote trips. Would suck to be stranded

Alternator whine/bearing noise on my 96 4runner. I replaced with one from my parts bin. I would like to rebuild the bad alternator and keep it for back up/spare parts. I see some rebuild kits online. Has anyone done this and is there a preferred vendor? Thanks in advance, Tom

Time to RR the rear axle/diff and but a new radiator!

As mentioned...tack one or two bolts. I actually went backwards and put the wire cable back in and sold off the synthetic rope. Made it less desirable for thieves.

Same here... I picked up a few over the years (anywhere from $20 to $40 a piece) to use as spares when the original one goes. The driveshafts are an item that are very hard to come by when you need it by tomorrow.

Yes on this...with the DuraSolid tool. Easier to press bearing on than off. I bought the same tools (20ton press and Durasolid tool) when the rear axles leaked on both of my 4runners.

There is....it's getting rid of the IFS and swapping in a Solid Axle, leaves or coils is up to you

Es are rougher riding, but for $200, I'll get them before they're gone! I have two 3rd gen 4Runners. One (01) has E range Duratracs and the other (96) has fairly new (8Kmiles) C range Duratracs. Guess which one is smoother? C range.

I've done about 5 elocker swaps (getting ready for another one) and it's far easier to take the axle housing off than having it under the vehicle. There's more room to work with. On the last 3rd gen housing I did, I didn't weld the mating surface to build it up and it's been leak free for over...

Mine was made from 3/8" thick flatbar, 2" wide by 18" long. Appropriate holes drilled for socket and bolts/drill bits to fit thru
