On second thought, it is not clear to me that there is "for sure" any kind of head gasket leak. It may just be the water pump.
How did you guys eventually know that it was the head gasket? Did it just suddenly get worse?
This is what makes me think I should get out from under it. I went and looked at a 2014 today. :)
I just need the thing to last another month before I change jobs and move. I am truly considering replacing the tires and bringing it to a mechanic to do the water pump/belt/pulleys, but a head...
Ok, so I bought this kit and ended up trying this - no head gasket leak. That's good, thanks for the recc.
What's not good is that the coolant level has dropped again. I've been keeping it topped off with water, but now I've got to figure out where the leak is so I can switch back to the Toyota...
What do you mean? It appeared to operate in the range with no visual evidence of it overheating like it did before.
Did basically the same test with BlueDriver logging today. Temps climbed from 130s to 192 degrees F. There was one erroneous reading that was like -9F, but it was only one. I...
I've got the same model. It's been great other than the cats going out about 2 years ago.
I know that there's coolant being lost somewhere, but I don't know yet if its a slow leak or a fast one. The heater acting up over the past few weeks makes me think it is slow. It's raining today, so...
Ok, thanks for all the replies so far. The first thing I did this morning was top off the coolant level with water. I tested it for over 30 minutes and drove about 20 miles - no issues so far. It operated within the regular range and the heater works "instantly" again.
I've got my fingers...
A about 2 weeks ago I noticed an issue with my 2005 v6 - the heater did not work unless I was moving. Late last night I went on a food run, and while waiting in the cold parking lot I hopped on the forums. I found some thread that implied that the heater performance could be dependent on RPMs...
Ok, here's what I decided to do - I'm going to buy a 9012 HIR bulb kit along with a new drill polishing set & 3m film to polish up my headlights this week. If I am unsatisfied, I will go HID and swap the HIRs into my fog lights.
Does anyone have any modern links and cost estimates for a good...
I've been reading a bunch of threads and learning a lot. I found a XenonDepot HID kit for my 2005 headlights that are only like $115. So now I am considering either:
1. Buying some 03-05 ebay OEM replicas and installing the XenonDepot kit in them. That would put me all in at around $210 for...
What do you guys think of just buying an all in one HID and headlight assembly kit? I’m seeing some around $200 online, and then I could either just drop them in place or swap to the 2006-2008 versions.
Why stay away from LEDs? They seem like the best combo - they last and are plug and play.
Honestly I’m considering the 06-09 projector upgrade. I like the look better, I just don’t know where to buy the painted trim piece that goes under the light.
I think where I'm currently at is that I want to buy some new headlights, seal them up with silicon, and then either drop in LEDs or modify for HIDs.
My two questions are this:
1. Why go the HID route over LED? Aren't LEDs straightforward, basically plug and play?
2. Does this generation need...
Hey, what do you guys think is the best options for the 03-05 headlights? I’ve sanded down and clear coated my headlights twice at this point - guess I didn’t do a great job, and I’m looking to either fix or swap to something that looks similar to factory on the cheap.
I’m also tired of...
Hi all, I have a night dashcam (Anker brand) that I would like to hardwire to my 2005 SR5. I do not have the fancy auto-dimming mirror, but I have noticed that there is a slot at the end of my headliner that I expect is used for the mirror wiring
Upon opening up the map lights, I see these...
