So I got everything back together today and it cranked right up!! Then 5 minutes later I can see coolant spraying out of the space between the head and block on the driver side. Exact same place I had before, so I'm back to square one. No clue what to do, I'm going to sell it but I won't get...

Awesome advice thanks! I went ahead with the oem gaskets from the dealer when I went to pick up coolant. I may give you a call sometime tomorrow to discuss it a bit after I clean up some more stuff. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Cleaning away I've been busy scrubbing my life away cleaning up everything in order to put it all back together. Thought I would share the crap show that was the cylinder block today. I scrubbed the passenger side pistons as well as the gasket surface in order to make good contact. Hoping to...

Haha thanks, can't wait to post pics for everyone. They did a valve job on it and cleaned them up nicely. Yeah I'm glad I did it myself also. A fun experience for sure and glad to learn a lot more about my truck!

Update Quick update. Heads are off and took them into the machine shop today. Everything looks good under the heads. All looks good on the heads after testing. Making a price list that includes everything I spent for this job. Will post a detailed one later. Originally was quoted $3,079 as some...

So I went ahead and pulled the cams for each head, it doesn't look like it would be possible to pull the heads without, definitely wouldn't be able to get a torque wrench on them when I put them back in. So I just took my time and it was no problem. Only worked about an hour yesterday so that's...

I'm going off the FSM. They have you pull the cam shafts before the heads. I'd prefer to leave them in if possible.

    t4rFL's Build

We have almost identical 4Runners lol. I have a 2000 4x4 black with 127k. Different tires (same size) and fenders is all. Well that and the blown HG i'm fixing. I'm also in Florida, Orlando/Sanford area.

Making good progress.. So I've gotten down to having the cylinder head covers off. I'm a little perplexed. It appears as thought the previous owner painted them red at one point, and then painted over them with black. I have a feeling they did some serious tinkering and a lot of damage to give...

Cool thanks. Yeah I built a service tool lol. By built I mean I drilled two holes in a board and stuck a few bolts through it and cranked like there was no tomorrow.

So I've begun teardown and everything has been going well so far. I ran into a little issue getting the camshaft timing pulleys off. The right (passenger side) camshaft timing pulley rotated about 1/6th of a turn when i was taking it off. Already had the timing belt off so it rotated...

I did do one on it prior to purchase. Checked out clean. Not sure what could have caused it as I have babied it since I got it. The previous owner had it sitting for long periods of time as he traveled a lot. Doubt that could have led to this. I checked all vin numbers throughout and they all...
