    Bent axle

Updated first post. Thanks everyone for their thoughts and help! Swapped the axle out with an identical used one and a weird thing happened, it drives straight while in the snow. Ha!

Thanks! I've tried but I can't isolate the bend as it sits. I'm pretty sure it's right at the end of the axle near the bearing and I know which side it is.

It's degrees as mentioned before but there's no "obvious" bend so pics won't do anything. I did measure it and there's approximately 1-1.5" discrepancy between the front of the rear tires and the back of the rear tires. Everything ElZicho is saying is exactly what I'm experiencing.

This. No wobble at all. Driven in northern Utah since I was able to in every type of vehicle (sports cars to heavy haulers) with good and bad tires in all kinds of weather. This 4runner is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever driven in snow. I was getting passed by RWD cars on low pro's left...

Oh it's an issue. Heavy tire wear on the outside of tire. Horrible sliding on slick or loose surfaces.

For those who replaced axle tubes did you get a used or new one? Can't find any used ones locally and I'm struggling to find any new ones for a decent price.

Volcom: thanks for the info! Update: had an alignment guy look at it that seems trustworthy. He said he's certain the axle housing (tube) is bent but the axle shaft should be just fine. Anyone else swap out the housing with stock internals?

You or anyone just replace the housing? Or did you do the entire axle?

Monkey Wrench: everything is solid under there; bushings, bars, bolts, etc. V8 man, the axle tube is what you're talking about?

I don't see any other bends. Any ideas on checking the axle for a bend for sure that anyone can think of? I can't see an easy way to throw a t square in there. I don't think it's the axle shaft, if it's not what other people here are thinking I'm thinking it'll be the tube. The wheel spins...

ElZilcho: Was hoping you were wrong. The rear end is pretty squirrely, especially when it's wet or on loose dirt.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I checked all the links or arms and they all look about as straight as can be. Even put a level on them just as a flat reference point.

Sheesh I hope I'm dumb and you guys are right. Checking the arms tonight...

Undercarriage was treated before purchase so no obvious scrapes noticeable.

Good call! But it's not those I don't think. Otherwise it would be a thrust angle issue and not toe I think. If I measure between tires the front part (left to right tire) is an inch closer than the rear. Though I could be wrong in what I'm looking for. All alignment shops say axle.
