Just making sure (oil) - and I searched ;)

Larry, Sorry just haven't gotten around to it. It's kind of messy when they are used. I did do it when I bought the Suburban in 1994. It was kind of interesting. The big surprise was the K&N. On the packaging it touted its pressure relief and anti-drain back valves. When I disected it I found...

    Parking Brake...do you use it??

Absolutely!!! If you've had an automatic transmission apart and seen the small size of the park detent, you would too. I wouldn't trust it. Maybe some of you automatic transmission techs out there can vouch for this.

    17" 03 wheel weight?

They don't... http://michelinman.com/assets/pdfs/doc_pilotsportas.pdf There isn't anything in the Pilot Sport A/S that matches the 30.5" OD of the stock 265/65R17 tire.

    17" 03 wheel weight?

Thanks Thai, Unfortunately the only Michelin Pilot tire that comes in at around 30.5 inch OD is the Pilot LTX in the stock 265/65R17 and the 285/55R18 in a 1 inch larger rim size. Michelin sure has some neat looking tires in its Pilot line-up, but, most are too small to fit the 4Runner.

    17" 03 wheel weight?

rensho, If and when you buy, can you post a picture of them on the vehicle? I like the STINGRAY III best. I was looking seriously at the BBS wheels Toyota TRD sells (18 X 8) and putting 285/55 X 18" Michelin Pilots on them. Decisions, decisions.

Just making sure (oil) - and I searched ;)

For those who like numbers and maybe a more scientific approach. Mobil 1 10W-30 has a pour point of -45 deg C, Mobil Drive Clean 10W-30 is -36 deg C, and 5W-30 is -39 deg C. http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil_Drive_Clean_Oils.asp...

This from the Redline website: "Red Line 10W30: Best all-weather viscosity grade for gasoline engines in cars and light trucks that are driven on the street on a daily basis. Reduces turbo lag and provides more power and economy while providing thicker bearing oil films at operating temperature...

Just making sure (oil) - and I searched ;)

"Do you mean that you want the oil that best resists pouring in cold weather? If that's the case then choose the 10w-30. It is probably five times slower in cold weather to get pumped through your engine. That will eventually catch up with you." Larry, I think you missed the point. 10W-30...

Just making sure (oil) - and I searched ;)

My reasoning for using 10W-30 Mobil 1 synthetic over the factory recomended 5W-30, I assume petrolium based oil, is that the cold weather pour point is so much better. You can confirm this by putting a couple of small containers of oil in you freezer and later pouring it out. Anyhow just for...

I am using Mobil 1 10W-30. The dealer here says they use 10W-30 in everything. I am using the Mobil 1 M1-209 oil filter instead of the M1-102. It's a bit longer. I assume there is more filter area. I will disect it and compare with the factory and M1-102 after the next oil change.

    '03 Actual OBSERVED MPG...

The numbers I posted previously were using mostly 89 octane, but in some places there wasn't a middle grade, so I used 91 octane. The vehicle was pretty much loaded with gear, enough that the rear end sat lower than normal, but not towing anything. I drive mostly at the posted speed limit on the...
