Cardan Joint needs replacement - How long do I have?

So with the variation in workmanship quality, seems better to just replace. $75 junkyard part sounds better than $500 new, depending on how much would go out shortly after.

That's enough reason for me to replace it.

Pro Tip - Key Fob Programming

The final solution was key on the outside. The intermediate attempt was grabbing the plunger (?) and moving it up/down while also pushing the power lock/unlock button. That did not work for me. The first attempt was straight up lock/unlock button. Didn't work because actuator hates life.

Cardan Joint needs replacement - How long do I have?

My driveshaft has hummed/vibrated for a while now. I finally took it to the shop thinking it was the u-joints, but they are saying that it is likely the bearing in the cardan joint. Their quote was unreasonably high, and I came across Tom Wood's for a reasonable price. My question is, can I...

Pro Tip - Key Fob Programming

I have a 99 Limited that I had trouble programming key fobs with. My driver's door actuator is bad and won't cycle enough times to complete the programming. I tried helping the lock out as I was pushing the electronic button and couldn't get it to react. Finally I found a trick that worked...

Installed 3" lift, now re-thinking that decision -- Opinions?

I can't get a picture until Monday, but it's almost as if they slid when I did the lift, and now they're oozing out below the clamp. I'm going to do the diff drop, clean up the CV, and see what happens. One thought is that maybe the intense angle "compressed" the volume inside a bit and...

Installed 3" lift, now re-thinking that decision -- Opinions?

That's what I'm hoping for, especially considering it's coming out at the clamps. Not to mention, it seems like many people run bad-boot CV's for a long time before actually replacing it. Not a trip-ending item.

I haven't had a chance to measure it yet (lost the tape). If anything I was worried about the back being high.

Installed 3" lift, now re-thinking that decision -- Opinions?

Yeah I had a 96 Impreza with 200k on it that was no stranger to wheel bearings and axles. I get that old cars need maintenance, I was more curious on the *extra* wear that a lift causes (like maybe on the transmission or some other less common areas). The Rola (or something of that kind) is...

Installed 3" lift, now re-thinking that decision -- Opinions?

Next on my list (probably in order): - Paint wheels gunmetal/dark gray - Paint grille - Roof Basket - Light bar on roof basket - Nicer tires - Sleeping platform Definitely guilty of that here. Lol. Thanks for your input and help.

True, I was thinking more long-term cost (added wear and tear due to the lift). Definitely learned a lot with this thread.

Installed 3" lift, now re-thinking that decision -- Opinions?

Honestly, no idea. I moved to an area that has lots of desert and mountains, and wanted something to do some exploring. Current plan is to do some car camping as well. So realistically? Probably not. I don't plan on doing any extreme rock crawling or off-trail stuff. As for how long to...

I'm flinging grease with < 10 miles after the lift, but it's oozing out by the clamps. Not a broken boot. Hoping the drop will cure that, or it'll relieve itself. Worst case scenario I put some hose clamps on.

Pro tip, don't lose the rear shock mount bolt and washers. They run a pretty $18 (for the 3) from Toyota.
