With the DEI kit, when you turn off the ignition key do the headlights remain on until 20 seconds or so after the last door is shut, or until double lock click on the fob (like factory)? Or are the lights simply turning off as soon as you turn off the ignition key?

Maybe try disconnecting the light sensor in the center of the dash, that way when the switch is in "Auto" it won't realize that it is dark outside and the lights won't click on.
