Damn that really sucks! But it's very useful beta/data point for those of us with lifts and kdss so thanks for sharing your experience. The photos of the internals of the cylinder are also helpful- not because I thought I could repair it but just to understand what may/may not be happening.

Did you ever find a confirmed diagnosis/solution to this problem? I have the same on a 2014 icon lifted 4runner. Also obviously out of warranty. Dealer won't touch it since it has aftermarket suspension.

Just for anyone's future reference... with a 2.5" Icon suspension lift, was able to fit a less common 275/70/r18 KO2s (33.16") after removing the front mud flaps and easy front fender trimming mod. No wheel spacers. Probably wouldn't fit without the lift, but haven't seen many people running...
