Spark plug prices!: Am I out of touch?

Yea you will find the iridium plugs are much more expensive, but they are supposed to last much longer. My old Corolla had iridium plugs and I had sticker shock the first time I bought 4 of them. It sucked too because I had 1 plug go bad about 30k later, likely due to a malfunctioning coil...

    OEM Wiper Blades

I've never had a dealer refuse to sell me OEM wiper blade inserts, I'm located in central Indiana. I just give them the model and year and they bring the inserts right out. I have always stuck with the OEM inserts, they seem to work well and are cheap enough I can replace them 2x a year if needed.

    Indiana 4runner owners?

That frame rust looks about typical from what I can see. The body rust is a bit more than I would expect. I have a 2015 and don't have any rust like that on any of my doors or back hatch. I would say it all depends on how long you plan to keep it. That door rust would be difficult to fix...

    Indiana 4runner owners?

I live in Indiana and can tell you that if a frame isn't washed or taken care of, it will absolutely have some rust. I'd for sure wait for some good photos before making that call.

Frame prep for bolt on sliders?

I applied a healthy coat of automotive grease to the frame/back of the mounting plate for my sliders. The fitment of the plate to the frame wasn't tight enough to prevent water/salt from entering it, so I figured I needed something to keep it out. Seems to have done a pretty good job so far...

Check for rust around the radiator support member

I replied to a thread a while back about common spots where rust will form. In the interest of helping others, I'll recap the areas where I have noticed rust form on my 2015. 1. At the rear hatch plastic hand holds to shut the tailgate. I have a small amount of rust forming, likely from the...

    Stock Panasonic Battery Life

I am still on my original battery on my 2015. I live in Indiana, so I'm likely due for a replacement. One thing to check before buying a new one is the price of a replacement from the dealer. I bought 2 batteries, 1 for my old 99 4Runner and 1 for my old 2011 corolla, and both times the...

    Door Sill Rust

I have noticed a similar pattern at several locations. Essentially any location where body panels meet, trim meets a panel, spoiler meets the roof, plastic pockets in the tailgate, headlights, etc etc. I'm pretty disappointed in the fit and finish of the 5th gen 4Runners in terms of plastic on...

Recomendations for 4x4 shops that specialize in T4R's-Central Indiana

The only place I have seen that works on 4Runners a lot is the 4 Wheel Parts/Flat Out Motor Sports off Interstate 69. I work near there and they always have bunch of Toyotas (4Runners, Tacomas, Tundras, Landcruisers) in their lot. I'm pretty sure they do a lot of work upgrading new vehicles...

    License Plate Screws

I also had this issue and replaced mine with Stainless Steel screws to avoid further rust issues. If you live in a salt prone area, I would suggest being proactive in replacing your screws before they become seized and a real pain in the butt to remove, as occurred on my 1999 4Runner.

Letter from Toyota - Super White and Blizzard Pearl Peeling Paint?

So it would seem from reviewing the previously linked facebook thread and posts of folks who have actually had paint peeling issues that the peeling paint takes several years to rear its head. That makes me wonder if Toyota will still be covering vehicles with this issue if the owner doesn't...

Letter from Toyota - Super White and Blizzard Pearl Peeling Paint?

So the letter said that Toyota is working out the details for the fix, but it did say their plan was to "repaint the affected areas". So its hard telling if you have a localized issue with say, your hood, would they only paint the hood or more? I find it odd that if the issue with peeling...

Letter from Toyota - Super White and Blizzard Pearl Peeling Paint?

I forgot to add that the letter did have my VIN number on it. I too have several rock chips, many more than I would expect to have at this time. I try and take care of my paint by hand washing it and applying paint sealant frequently. It would seem that some of the paint on the 5th gens is...

Letter from Toyota - Super White and Blizzard Pearl Peeling Paint?

So today in the mail I received a letter from Toyota Customer Support Program notifying me that apparently some folks have reported issues with peeling paint on metal body panels. The letter states that this issue has only been reported for Super White (040) and Blizzard Pearl (070). The...

Eastwood internal frame coating - thoughts?

I have used this product on both my 1999 limited and 2015 Trail. My experience is that it works if you get it installed before any rust starts to form. Once rust starts to form, I think it will only slow it down. My experience with corrosion is that you can't stop it, only slow it down. The...
