Thanks for all the replies! I think the diff fluids are probably most neglected, I always thought they were like good forever or something...lol

I just picked up a 97 4Runner with ~86k on it. I got it from the original owner who said that he has never changed the tranny fluid. I check the fluid, its not brown, but pretty dark red. The tranny shifts fine. I'm not exactly sure what to do now, any ideas? I'm not sure exactly what burnt...
