    5th Gen Calipers

Centric Caliper quality went to shit when they moved the rebuilding plant to Mexico a few years ago. The OP has new calipers, not reman (even though they were sold as reman) which is probably why they still work. Split that caliper in half....they either forgot to put in the crossover...

    Brakes Hard as a Rock

Check valve takes 5 seconds to test...try to blow through it both ways. Rare to see one of these fail. There was a recall when I worked for the dealer back in 2000 or 2001 on the toyota echo (maybe prius?...can't remember) where we were replacing boosters for a similar problem, except in this...

    More caliper failures!

I've torn down tens of thousands of caliper cores from all over the world and the only ones where I've every seen rust on the wet side of the seal were those that had been sitting outside in a pile of junk getting rained on for years. While brake fluid is hygroscopic, the whole point of that...

    More caliper failures!

Sort of, but not really. I own a caliper rebuilding business...mainly specialize in air cooled porsche and vintage british, but do everything. Also worked for Centric Parts for about 20 years. A caliper that has been in use almost never has rust in the wet side of the system. I take...

    Rebuidling 4.0

I wouldn't bother with the rear cat...there is no 02 sensor behind it to monitor it, so it won't cause a CEL.

    Coated Brake Pistons

The OE pistons are not just polished steel, they are chrome plated. They have excellent corrosion resistance. The issue is that moisture collects around where the boot fits to the casting...then slowly creeps under the boot and around into the bore where as the paint or zinc plating degrades...

Aftermarket source for grey textured 2003 Sport front bumper?

Wife smashed the front bumper...seems everything out there is primed/smooth. I need the plain grey plastic bumper. Has anyone found one? I'd really rather not get some tube or ARB type deal as it a daily driver stock truck.

    Truly Fixing Seized Calipers

Squirt the boots full of silicone dielectric grease after you put 'em back together....it'll create a boundary seal and they'll work fine.

    *** V6 Head Gasket Action Request ***

Headgaskets can fail in several ways...which will need different methods of detection. A blue juice test at the radiator will only detect if combustion gasses are leaking out of the cylinder into the cooling system, but won't detect if coolant is leaking into the cylinders. Just because one...

    Temporary fix for sticking brakes?

Correct...we're simply creating a boundary seal.

    Temporary fix for sticking brakes?

I work for a caliper rebuilder...here's how you make 'em live. Pistons stick because corrosion creeps under the dust boot and starts to rust the bore on the dry side of the seal...pinches the piston, and they stick. Get some new/rebuilt calipers, or rebuild yours. If the calipers aren't...

5vz-fe what in the heck is this thing on the block

The T100 and the earlier and 5 lug V6 tacomas used a rear sump pan with the dipstick in that location. for the 6 lug tacos and 4runners that got plugged and the dipstick goes through the oil pump.
