Just attached an old Yakima mount/crossbar at the front of the Pro rack to attach a bike fork mount and wrap a surfboard foam rack pads to. No issues after thousands of highway miles.

2021 Pro came just with the all weather rubber mats. Also cargo net, first aid kit.

FJ70 or FJ80 Land Cruiser. Might also consider a Taco for newer alternative. Went from FJ80 to Jeep JKU prior to 4Runner. Appreciate the drivability, utility and engineering differences over the JK.

For the short trips when staying near the beach then for sure I'll just throw it in the back and let it hang out the rear window opening. But unfortunately don't live so close so have to shlep a lot of other gear that takes up the cargo space. I'd be driving for 10+ hours in this case.

I need to carry a 9'6" longboard on my rack ('21 TRD Pro with the FJ style rack). The farthest points to strap down seem a little close for this length board (for highway speeds) so wondering if anyone has tried adding another crossbar further towards the front

I have a Detours carrier on order. My experience with an 80 series land cruiser with same underside spare setup drove me to this. Rust issues above the spare due to collection of road salt and bottoming out in deep sand (beach) several times.

Jeep Wranglers also have the capped lugs. Many personal nightmare experiences with them on two different ones. I ended up buying a full new non-capped sets but should have done it the minute I took ownership.

Agree. I was thinking of the spare on the rear vs underneath. But your point is still valid if not concerned with having the rear spare match the other 4. (btw, I had a white '94 FJ80 for 20 years. Ultimately gave it up due to rust I couldn't keep up with. Worst spot was under the rear deck...

Another benefit of the 5-wheel rotation is you don't have any financial resistance to pick different tires when the time comes (not having to throw out an unused spare and buy/mount another matching 5th). Of course this only applies to us who upgrade to a real rim/spare.

I'm about to pick up a 2021 and negotiated a real wheel/tire instead of the standard spare. I asked to ensure TPMS is included in the new wheel and no comment from them that it wouldn't work. Never occurred to me that the system wouldn't automatically pick up the changes after a 5-wheel rotation...

good to know. I was considering to install an aftermarket receiver just for this reason... I had an Alpine with wireless CarPlay in my last vehicle and don't think I can live without it now
