It is a shame what has happened over there. If anyone can overcome it, it is the Japanese. I do fear about the parts shortage. Even though my 2011 is only a month old, a shortage could be felt for a long while regardless if something happens tomorrow or a year from now.

Can someone help me understand why replacing the head unit would make a bigger difference than replacing the speakers and adding an amp? I'd like to keep everything under a couple grand.

I want to keep the stock look of the 4runner. Besides, I think some quality speakers and an amp would make the biggest difference in sound. Have you seen the speakers in the 5th gens? Yikes.

I can't remember what it is from, but I read in the owners manual that this noise is normal. It is the car doing some sort of check or something like that. I am sure someone with knowledge will step in shortly.

I ordered those speakers. Question, are these the same ones the OP installed. Also, I haven't installed speakers in a car in 15 years. What are the things attached by the wires to the speakers? Looks like the terminal but ive never seen speakers like that. Where do they go in the install...
