    2000-01- what year to buy?

Buy an '01 because... it has an updated traction, stability, and anti-lock system, over the previous years. Look for a Limited, it will have all the options and Leather! The oil filter is kind of a PITA. The fluids are no problem. Search here for all the info. Good luck! Bob

    Fuel Filter Help

You NEED tubing wrenches! To change the filter you MUST use Metric Tubing Wrenches, or you will ruin the fittings. Also, they are on there quite tight. Access is a bit difficult due to the odd angle. I did mine, but had to retighten the fittings due to a small leak. Also, DO NOT use a torch as...

Front Struts Yes, I think Monroe makes a front strut also. I did not check the price though.

New Rear Shocks-WOW what an improvement!

I just had Monroe Reflex shocks installed in the rear and what an improvement! My '01 Limited has 78k and the rear "bounce" was nauseating. Drives like new now! Paid $44 and change at NAPA. I can recommend the Reflex!

Car not accelerating when going uphil (popping and rattling sounds)

If the dealers diagnosis says the MAF and A/F are bad, and this will correct the problem, I would let them do it. Then you have the recourse of "You said this would fix it" . If you have the parts installed by a third party, then all bets are off with the dealer. If you continue to have...

    2001 Front hub question

I got that, do the front half shafts turn continously, or are there hubs in the wheels that disconnect, like the older systems did.

Car not accelerating when going uphil (popping and rattling sounds)

I would be skeptical of an aftermarket MAF. My money would be on a Toyota part fixing the problem!

    90K service/timing belt/water pump

I found the same pricing here. They add $140 labor for the pump job, plus the $140 or so for the part. I would hope it includes new coolant, but I did not ask..

    alternator question

I also would replace the entire alternator, and soon, so that you can drive it locally for awhile, just to be sure. Also, I would be carefull of price shopping. You usually get what you pay for. IMHO I believe that NAPA rebuilt parts are better than the discount stores. NAPA would be my first...

My First 4Runner, have some questions

Did you purchase it from a licensed dealer? If so, I think it may be illegal in CA for a dealer to sell a car with an emissions defect. You might check with CARB on that. A second opinion is also a good idea.. Modern Cats don't usually fail for no reason. Good luck!

    Center Diff lock button working??

Have 2001 Limited; Does the Center Diff Lock Button push in, and stay in, like the seat heaters, when engaged, or is it push-push? Mine does not stay in, and does not seem to go into diff lock. Thanks for all help!
