driving cross country on one oil change ?

I did similar last summer, I chose to do an oil change prior and then when I returned. I figured it couldn't hurt and it's not that much money. But provided you keep an eye on the oil level you should be fine.

Front and Rear Diff fluid change

I will bet money if you go to the Toyota dealer for diff and TC service they fill all of them from the bulk 75W80 in the back.

Front and Rear Diff fluid change

Redline makes an equivalent for the Toyota transfer case oil. I use it in mine and the regular Redline gear oil for the diffs. Redline MT-LV Red Line Synthetic Oil. MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 Gear Oil

What did you do with your 4runner today?

The lower oil pan is "glued" on with FIPG so there is nothing to dry out. It can fight you to get off, but it is easy enough to get to. I have a oil pan separating tool that works well, get it in there and give it a smack. I had so much sludge that at first I was changing oil at 500 miles, I...

What did you do with your 4runner today?

I picked up my 4th Gen last year with a broken cam chain and full of sludge. Poor thing had little to no maintenance. I mechanically pulled out the sludge I could and cleaned the oil pickup strainer. Mine was much worse than yours. Since then I have increased the oil change intervals and I run...

Windows cannot unzip it, you have to use 7-Zip to extract it.

What did everyone pay for their 4th gen?

I paid $1100 for my 08. It barely ran when I bought though and the body is rough. It was a neighbors and when it started giving him trouble he parked it and bought a Highlander. It sat for a year and a half and then I bought it. It had a broken timing chain, likely from lack of oil changes...

    New Head Unit Upgrade suggestions.

I have the Pioneer DMH-2660NEX in mine and I love it. I used the Maestro RR adaptor and retained the SWC and the JBL components. The Maestro also allowed me to have a screen for the TPMS sensor so I can tell what pressure is in what tire, as well as OBDII data. It also does CarPlay, Android...

    Alternator Removal

The Alternator is not the easiest to take out but it isn't too bad. It does slip out that corner. That is not a stock canister, it appears to be an added on transmission filter? You could clamp the hose and disconnect it and not loose much fluid. Would make it much easier to remove.

    4wd problem 4th Gen

This is a very common issue with the 4th gen design. With lack of use the mechanism gets "gummed" up and will get stuck. Many people on the board subscribe to the process of putting the truck into the different modes, 4HI, Diff Lock and 4LO once a month to make sure all the actuators stay...

    4th Gen 4Runner stuck in 4lo

Yes here is the link - Fixed my T-Case actuator w/ electricity and logic. The motors are rated for 30 volts. You should be able to use the info from that post to see what state the system is in and you could try the procedure to move the actuator. Matt

Fixed my T-Case actuator w/ electricity and logic.

I just bought a 2008 T4R as well. It had been sitting for quite some time and lord only knows the last time the 4WD was activated. It was not able to go in to 4hi. I tried the OP procedure and was able to get the 2-4 actuator to function. It did take 20 volts though to get it unstuck. A...
