What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Oil change for the front diff. Last time I had to air chisel the drain plug off, so I had installed a new one with copper antiseize and under-torqued it (spec is 48 ft lb, I torqued it to 40). It STILL was a pain in the ass to get off!! I'm happy I didn't strip it though. Once again, I had a...

    1st Non German Vehicle Build (99' SR5)

That’s great you got all the service records. What did your mechanic say about the lower ball joints? I see people post failures almost daily on the Facebook groups “Toyota LBJ Failure Support Group” and other 3rd gen groups. The other day someone had one fail when doing 75mph. I think the...

    1st Non German Vehicle Build (99' SR5)

Nice find! $4k is a great price. Welcome I’ll echo what was said in the post above. I think you should hold off on any mods until you take care of these things: - New Lower Balls Joints and 8x bolts (Toyota OEM parts only) - Replace all fluids - New radiator

Found them! SR5 Skinny Flare Front Mudguard Caps!

Cool those are the ones I designed. There's a link in my signature if you want to download the files and print your own.

    Coolant Leak

Are you sure it’s not coming from the lower radiator hose connection near the oil filter? That doesn’t look like the OEM “constant tension” hose clamp on there. I’m not sure if that worm-drive style clamp seals as evenly (just a guess)

Rear bearing and seal kit question

You could always try asking the seller. You should also check to make sure it’s the updated inner seal (Toyota 90310-50006). I just used the Marlin Crawler kit and bought the updated inner seals from Amazon. Everything is working great.

Lower Ball Joints and Higher Mileage

Good move. Replace the 4x bolts with each lower ball joint too. I suggest you provide your mechanic with the torque specs too and emphasize that you want them torqued properly. Bad mechanics will just tighten them an impact driver which overstretches them and can result in them snapping.

Pulling intake. What all should I do while I'm in there?

You have to remove the fuel rail. I replaced the banjo bolt washers (PN 90430120260) to make sure they sealed well. I also replaced the little o-ring for the Fuel Pressure regulator since I removed that as part of removing the fuel rail. I had some spare injector o-rings as well. I’ll second...

    Rear Axle Seal/Bearing Replacement Videos

Hey man, I really can't thank you enough for making this post. I just received my Marlin Crawler service kit (link) and I was looking at the seals and thinking about whether it would seal better or worse than the OEM seal. I'm glad I found your posts -- I'm gonna order 3x OEM seals from Amazon...

    Chuckles' 98 Manual SR5 4Runner

Ugh your post is making me nervous about my rear wheel bearing thats been humming/grinding. The axle seal is leaking slowly and the bearing has a lot of play. New parts are on the way but I won’t have time to install for another two weeks. Did you bearing give any warning signs before it locked up?

1st Breakdown... Time to pull the transmission

Nope, this is a manual transmission. You must have an auto if you have a 4th gen. Yes I did see your video and the struggles you hard with bolts breaking. I replaced my clutch about two years ago (before the video was made) but I will definitely use your video to jog my memory in some areas...

1st Breakdown... Time to pull the transmission

Yep for sure. I was lucky I was in a safe spot to break down and easily get a tow. I'm not sure what the chances of this happening are, but from my research I'm not the first. I think what contributed to it failing was: 1. High mileage (270k miles) 2. Lots of mountain highway driving which...

1st Breakdown... Time to pull the transmission

I'm sad to say my 4Runner left me stranded for the first time. A week prior I had just finished up a 3500 mile road trip out to the PNW towing a pop-camper and had zero issues the entire trip. But this past weekend, I took a short trip out to the mountains and while driving into town I heard a...

    JZiggy's storage/camping/sleeping platform

Great job man. I need to build one of these myself. It seems like such a huge time commitment though so it's hard for me to get started. How many hours do you think you have in designing and building this thing? Did you CAD it out first?
