Anyone replace their factory skid plates with aftermarket and want to sell the factory ones? I have a 2012 Limited and would like to replace both the front as well the the "rearward" one that has the access cover for the oil drain plug. I live in southern Maine.

Has anyone serviced the driveshaft? If it's a 4WD model, there must be 10-12 grease fittings as I think back on it. I'm guessing here ... but if you're not doing your own maintenance, I'm betting the DS is not getting lubricated ... even at a Toyota dealer. It's possible your 4R has never...

I'm curious as to who is changing the trans fluid on Thursday? Are you going to a Toyota dealer? Or independent garage? I ask because usually on the Toyota service desks, they all quote the Toyota BS line ... "It's a sealed transmission ... lifetime fluid" Usually the service writer will...

Ugh. Black, burnt fluid, and trans already slipping? I suppose a fluid / filter change is worth a shot, but I have a feeling you're going to be replacing or rebuilding the trans pretty shortly ....

Rusted bumper definitely does not match the undercarriage. Some cover up spraying has occurred there .... almost positive. I'd say hard pass on that one.

While you're servicing the driveline ... if it's never been done, or if you don't know ... not a bad time to change the F&R diff fluid, as well as the transfer case fluid. Be aware that the transfer case calls for a different fluid than that F&R diffs ... they both use 75W90. The transfer...

I'll advise once I'm finished. As to the Gates being a poor fit ... I read the reviews of what's available on the aftermarket for those tensioners ... and decided to got with the OEM Toyota tensioner. Was just over $200 ... but peace of mind. And it's sold as a unit ... so the tensioner...

Odd question perhaps, but has the trans fluid ever been changed? Or have you at least loosened the plug to see the visually inspect color/condition of the fluid? Some might disagree, but I would start with that step ... a fluid change. Not necessary to drop the pan in my opinion, but at...

So no one has tackled the belt tensioner yet it seems? Mine is a 2012 Limited with 146K miles ... so I'm going to do it all as preventative maintenance. I bought all 3 idler bearings, as well as the tensioner (ouch, expensive) Looks like the alternator as well as the AC compressor has to come...

I've had good luck with: automotivetouchup.com Have used them for years now ... you can get just a small bottle with a brush, or spray can. But yes, the Pearl paint would be a two step paint ... but no worries. Their website will instruct you and direct you as to exactly what you'll need.

Being a Limited, it is full time 4WD. Like you, my local dealer looked at me like I had 2 heads when I inquired about what they used in the shop, or the Toyota specific fluid. I found what I needed on Amazon ... bought 2 quarts ... worked like a charm. Even has a very unique spout funnel...
