The 3rd Gen All Questions Allowed Thread

I'm not sure what exactly you're dealing with but I feel your pain. My attempt at installing the Wheeler's extended lines went horriblly wrong and I had to abondon ship and go back to OEM too. And Wheeler's wasn't very helpful in the process. It was a freaking nightmare. Wheelers Offroad brake...

    How important is radiator replacement?

I know I'm on borrowed time with mine. I have a '97 and just crossed over 290,000 miles with the original radiator. It's on the to do list come spring time, along with a new timing belt.

The 3rd Gen All Questions Allowed Thread

That frame looks a heck of a lot nicer than my rig did when I bought it. I have Safe-T-Caps welded in in several spots address frame rot. Spent about $2500 total to have it done. In retrospect I would have liked to have found something in better shape to start with, but I bought my truck from a...

Best rock sliders on a budget?

Just pointing out that these are now listed at $509.15. Quite a jump from $310 just 18 months ago.

Making a ride-along tool kit- what should I include?

I thought this video was interesteing. I'm also getting started and this has options for starting small and going bigger depending on what you're going to be doing with the vehicle. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/L5VQWwY_ytM?si=dx_DEyHqzcZl_JX1"...

    CV axle replacement recommendations

FYI since this thread has been bumped. I had a "let me know when back in stock" email set up for the TrackMotiv Xtended Travel CV axles (TO-8043XTT) on Rock Auto and recently got an email saying they've been discontinued. But I just checked the Rock Auto website and they do appear to have them...

    Need additional 1/2" lift

I don't. I thought I would need to look into that prior to getting the alignment done, but since I've had the front end straightened out, it seems to be fine. That said, I'm sure adjustable UCAs would be beneficial to some degree.

    Need additional 1/2" lift

It's been about a year since I refreshed the suspension. I had an offroad shop do the install since they were also doing work to patch up a few questionable rust spots in the frame, so I can't speak to how easy or hard it was. I did have to reboot (and stretch boots) on the CV axles. They tore...

    Need additional 1/2" lift

I have this set-up. Here is how it sits with the front shock on the second perch. It's a very slight rake, maybe 1/2". I have a Trail Gear tube bumper I need to install which I suspect will have the back end pretty close to level with the front when unloaded. Apologies for the bad lighting...

    CV axle seals

    Correct.

    CV axle seals

Sharing a hack I used to create my own CV axle seal install tool when I replaced mine a few months ago. I bought a small piece of PVC pipe (2.75" exterior diameter) measured down 5 mm and traced a circle in pencil around the PVC. Wrapped the whole thing in duct tape until I had layers stacked...

The 3rd Gen All Questions Allowed Thread

I'm surprised no one has replied to this, but since I just went through the process of buying all of these tools, I'll chime in. I started working on my rig with a cheapo 1/4" itty-bitty socket set that I've had from before I can even remember. It pretty much sucked and was super slow but I was...

    3rd Gen T4R Picture Gallery

That thing is pretty sweet. I love the worn in and well used look. I also would have killed to have a car that cool as my first car in high school. Mine was a 1988 Oldsmobile Firenza, a car so cool they only made it for six years. Since this is a pic thread. Mine looked like this, but was gray.

4Runner body shop - KS, OK, CO, NE, MO, TX

The $2.5k per side is close to what I've had informally quoted when I've asked about rockers too. A lot of places told me they won't even do it because they warranty the body work, and they aren't willing to warranty spots with high rust potential. You can get panels for relatively cheap -...
