Wires can be broken and insulation still intact where they enter the hatch. That’s what I found with my rear defrost. The wiper wires were completely broken and defrost wires were intact. I cut and spliced in new wires on both and now everything works.

What did you have? I’m looking to replace a RC 3” that came on my 98 with a 2” and the possibilities are overwhelming.
