I have a 2001 with out the locker and I travel up to the rim quite a bit. We always head up to Chevelon Lake area. The trails up on the rim are pretty tame compared to most in AZ, and even then I have never needed a locker any where I have gone in AZ. Definitely a bonus but not a deal breaker.

Even here in Arizona, on a 115 degree day, my temps are always at 195-197. The only time I have ever seen higher is wheeling in the desert with ac on full and barley any breeze, and that was only 202.
