Glad you seem to have figured it out. I have a 3" toytec ultimate with UCA's on my 06 4x4 and I get the clunk in the front, similar to what you have described. I have not had the chance to inspect much, but a dude from Toytec told me that it could very well be a loose sway bar or the sway bar...

All good things mentioned. Whichever you decide, I say make sure that thing is absolutely clean of rust, check that undercarriage. MY 06 undercarriage is covered in it and it saddens me thinking of the potential things that could go wrong at anytime.

I have been told countless times that replacing as a whole is the way to go. Have not been down the road yet, but the reasoning was that it is supposed to be much more of a PITA to replace just the boot. But, also cheaper. It is a trade off.

Awesome man, should be a fun project and awesome bonding experience for you two. Even 2wd runners need some love, but I can't help but be a little saddened. Personally, 4wd for me or I will keep looking. It is just the only way to go, if going for a truck like this.
