What kind of transmission gauge is everyone using?

The Scangauge just displays the data that the ECU is transmitting on the OBDII Interface so the temperatures are as accurate and the same as the ECU is reading. That goes for all the other data output displays on the Scangauge -- it's just displaying data the ECU is transmitting for the various...

    Direct replacement switches

These will drop right into 96-02 panel knockouts too: GSW-45 Rocker Switch - Scion OEM Style I used them when I added a switch for my power antenna, looks factory and works great.

Just bought a 99' SR5 and I need new Tires

I put a set of P265/70R16 Destination A/Ts on my 2001 SR5 last October and I'm really happy with them. Mostly city/highway driving with some occasional back country roads. They're good in the rain and snow (not likely a problem for you based on your location!) and are as quiet as the crappy...

    Which Sylvania SilverStar?

I have a 2001 and my buddy does too. He got the Silverstar Ultra Twins and I got these: Philips Xtreme Vision We compared them side by side at night and the Philips are brighter and a "whiter" white but not bluish at all. We both like the Philips bulbs better. The 9003 (HB2/H4) is definitely...

Camping trip in Michigan with pics

I grew up on the west side of Michigan, between Ludington and Muskegon. We lived right on the edge of the Manistee National Forest and about a mile from Lake Michigan. I miss western Michigan a lot... if you like outdoor stuff and 4 seasons, it's a great place to live or visit.

    Electric Antenna?

It's a two pin switch (SPST). If you want to manually control the antenna up/down you would split the antenna control wire (it's blue on most head units) in the radio harness and insert the switch in between. You run one wire from the radio/head unit antenna control wire to one pole of the...

    Electric Antenna?

One like this: SCION-TOYOTA-OEM-STYLE-ROCKER-SWITCH It will snap right into one of the in-dash switch cutouts on a 96-02 4Runner. They have some pictures of installations on the ebay listing.

    Electric Antenna?

I put a switch in series with the blue antenna wire on the harness from my JVC KW-NX7000 in-dash DVD/Nav unit when I installed it. I spliced into the harness and ran a pair of wires to the switch. I used a Toyota rocker switch and mounted it in a free slot next to my fog light switch on the...

Picked up a Scangauge II on the Cheap

Slightly off topic -- I'm considering getting a Scangauge II and was wondering does anyone know for certain if XGauge will read transmission temperature for a 3rd Gen. (2001) T4R? I've heard both yes and no so I'm not sure. The Xgauge documentation on Scangauge's web site looked kind of old and...

    Upgrading Headlight Bulbs

I put a set of Philips X-Treme bulbs in my '01 Runner a couple months ago. Huge improvement over the stock bulbs. I'm really happy with them. My best friend has an '01 as well and he has Silverstar Ultra's -- he likes my Philips X-treme bulbs better too and said he'd probably go with them next...

Replaced all my speakers in my '98

Sounds encouraging. I look forward to seeing pics of your install!

    new speakers

Maybe in yours but in my 2001 SR5 they are 4 inchers exactly like the ones I posted a link to. Every 3rd gen. I've seen has those crappy little 4 inchers in them, including a couple Limiteds.

    new speakers

If you've got a 3rd gen. then the front speakers are 6.5 in. and the rears are a funky 4 in. with a triangular 3 hole pattern. You can see what they look like in this thread: 3rd Gen Speakers and Mounting I'm whipping up some adapters right now to mount standard 5.25 in. speakers in the rear...

    Blacked-out Emblems

Those black emblems look great, good work! A tip for getting the hard, dried emblem glue off (or any stickers or emblems) that are on your vehicle is to hit it with some heat from a heat gun on low setting or a hair dryer if you don't have a heat gun. It will soften up the glue and you can...

    '00 4runner 6.5" drop-in speaker choices

What did you end up doing for the rears? I have the GTO627's in the front but I still need to upgrade the rears.
