    4wd-4h

Only true if your center differential is locked or you have a model w/o a center differential.

If you're stopped in neutral and it won't engage, drive forward a couple of feet, put it back in neutral, and try again.

    Revo-2 LT265/70/17 installed today - oh yeah!

How's the ride with those "E" load tires? Like a UPS truck?

    4Wd vs 2WD gas mileage

See above thread. The mpg penalty comes from having 4WD in your truck. Actually engaging doesn't make much difference.

2WD/4WD doesn't affect Gas Mileage Dramatically

How does using 4WD have anything to do with the car driving you? One thing I do like about 4WD on dry pavement is that it lets me jump into traffic from a driveway more quickly with a heavier food without squealing the back tires. Other than that, I don't see any difference between the two...

2WD/4WD doesn't affect Gas Mileage Dramatically

I did a similar study in my 2008 4WD earlier this year. I ran alternate tanks in 2WD and 4WD for a total of about 8000 miles. I found a .25 mpg difference. My miles are almost entirely city streets or urban freeway where its impossible to maintain a steady speed like you could on an interstate...

    Tire wear on 4 runner

Same here. The fronts might wear a little bit quicker due to the weight shift from braking but nothing as bad as a FWD car.

well this is embarrassing - testing 4lo

I guess that explains the heavy steering resistance I got one time when I tried to turn before 4HI had fully engaged.

2002 sport needs some good tires... Nokian anyone?

What about the Nokian WRG2's? They're all-season but more winter capable than normal all-season tires. They don't have the aggressive AT look though. Nokian WRG2 SUV

    4Lo is a No Go

After reading this thread about 4LO not working, I tested mine today. It engaged smooth as silk on the first try. I did notice more gear noise (straight cut gear?) and a little rougher shifting from the tranny. Is that typical when in 4LO?

    T4R 4WD = Awesome

Is the mag chloride they use in Colorado as bad as the rock salt they use elsewhere?

    What tires do you have?

    4Lo is a No Go

Isn't it OK to drive it in 4LO on pavement as long as you don't lock the center? Granted you wouldn't be going very fast.

    Going downhill in low gear

    What gear are you using?
