Only when you are talking about "at the SAME temperature". And that is not what the multi-grade oil numbers mean at all. Cold straight grade 5w oil is thicker than 30w straight grade oil at operating temperature. A 5w30 oil flows like 5w when cold but when it is warmed to the engine...
