Does anyone know whether this PTR31-89060 TRD cat back exhaust fits early 4th gen models? It certainly fit my 2005. I am selling a like new system in the classifieds and have gotten questions. Would the early 4th gen really have that much different an exhaust

Good plan BTW, I would try for a lower mile 4runner. These go 300k easily, but like my 96 4runner at 300k, I put 220k on it myself. That was a lot of issue free miles, but at 230k onwards there were some minor stuff starting and flexplate broke at 280k and stuck a ring at 290 due to cracked air...

I did the stainless steel hose clamps on mine. With the boot pulled down the shaft, no issues with the clamp hitting the boot.

Not much chance that the belt stretched that much. U most likely got the belt not running around the pullies correctly. When you were getting the belt on over the tensioner how far did you have to pull the tensioner back to get it over the pulley? It should be rather far. Belts don't stretch...

How difficult was it to move the tensioner? Were the pulleys the same size? Was it working before? Did you have the belt threaded properly? When I was done it was really difficult to get the belt on. I had to rotate the tensioner really far. I was putting on a new belt, so it should be tight.

Replacing the tensioner should not be needed. Take the pulley off the tensioner. As mentioned, the bolt is opposite the others, righty loosen, lefty tighten. When looking at the head of the bolt, the top of the bolt should move to the right to loosen. Loosening should not allow the tensioner to...

Oh yeah. got to get the alt out of the way and the ac compressor unbolted and moved around 2 to 3 inches to gain access. Why are you removing the tensioner and not just unbolting the tensioner pulley (left hand threads)?
