Well I was hoping it wouldn't be anything too serious. Was planning on taking it in yesterday but work got in the way. On the way to work this morning CEL came on :( . Don't have my code reader yet.
Hopefully its not the manifold because that was replaced 55k miles ago.

I just bought a '98 several days ago. 197k miles with a spotty service history.
Alternator at 130k
Exhaust Manifold at 140k
Starter at 141k
Resealed leaking oil cooler at filter housing 161k

Probably one of the more mediocre posts in this thread...I washed mine. Its my first 4runner and Toyota that I've owned. Only 5 days in my possession.
I received my Haynes manual in the mail yesterday and now troubleshooting a few things.
