    Vehicle Jolt and Shifting Issues

I had a similar issue a few years ago -- don't panic, it may be something simple. Mine would appear to drop into neutral between shifting from 1 to 2, then S L A M hard into second. Get yourself a can of DeOxit and a flashlight, and maybe a mirror or use your phone as a periscope of sorts...

transmission soleniod harness connector help, please

I've searched around in my vast archive of crap and can't find what you're looking for. I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile (not having any idea what it costs) to just get a new replacement cable?

'05 T4r Parking Brake Adjustment - Just did it

When you adjusted the parking brake shoes with the star wheel, did you first compress the service brake pads with a c-clamp so they weren't dragging on the rotor? I compress the caliper, then twiddle the adjusting wheel one click at a time until I can't turn the rotor easily by hand anymore...

Shift indicator flickers, cruise control cancels!

Qub3d, it turns out I didn't have to replace mine. With the key at "unlock" and engine OFF, I ran the shift a bunch of times between R and 3 and that seemed to clear off any gunk built up on the contacts. It seems really unlikely that it would work, but it's been fine since 2023... so....

Need Advice re: Parking Brake Adjustment (Possibly SOLVED)

Bob, First of all, welcome. You've found a good place here. Lots of info. Before you mess with the cable, could you tell me/us how you went about adjusting the brake shoes? Try it again, but follow the procedure listed in my message above your post. If the pedal is now going down farther than...

Replacing bulb behind 4wd knob on dash?

I just had my dash apart to replace this and some other bulbs. I cannot imagine trying to get the 4x4 switch out as described. I mean, I'm sure it can be done because others have done it -- but it's not really that hard to pull that whole panel off. I think it's 3 bolts. One 10mm on the "under...

2003 Steering Reservoir: Filter or screen?

I did -- turns out it's the famous steering joint. The "heavy" feeling escalated to where the steering wheel would be "sticky" at quarter or half turns (can't remember.) I bought a new joint and have it waiting to install - but haven't yet. I hit the whole steering joint area with Deep Creep...

    2003 V8 - Seeking highway tire recommendation

Vehicle is a 2003 V8 Limited Current tires are P265-65-R17 110S Michelin Defenders. I was quite happy with those and had maybe 2 years left, but they all got slashed. Luckily I had a set of junk tires on old wheels to use in the meantime so I have the luxury of time to shop around. Not opposed...

    Big Transmission Trouble HELP!

I should make this a copypasta :-) Anytime you have transmission issues involving a CEL and solenoid codes, your checklist should include that white connector on the driver's side of the transmission just around the gas pedal. This is where the ECU connects to the valve body, and when...

    Parking Brake Shoe Replacement

The zip tie trick is a total gamechanger. When I first did mine a few years ago, those little clips took me what seemed like hours to take care of. Earlier in the summer I did a friend's parking brake with the zip ties in less time than it took him to do his front calipers on and off. I just...

Removing 4th-gen Power Steering Fluid Reservoir

Just a serendipitous moment -- if you happen to break or damage yours, I just found an extra used one in my shop if needed.

Mounting my OEM Lug Centric Wheels

Oddly enough I think I know what you're looking for. PM me your mailing address and you can have these for shipping cost. I bought some secondhand OEM wheels from a Tundra for my Tacoma (same lug pattern) but it had these plastic rings snapped into the center holes, presumably to help with...

The 4th gen clunk when braking and starting

If it's gone a long time without lubrication, it's gonna take a few treatments until it lasts a full oil change between the times when it gets clunky. When I first got mine, I don't think it had been done in 40,000 miles. I greased it, then like 200 miles later I had to grease it again, then...

    Transmission issues and questions

Since you found the broken wire, is there any way you could splice a piece in there to repair it? I mean, the end result can't be any worse than what's happening now.

OBD-II change in 2020 - Zero Point Calibration Issue

I wonder if they're talking about the "clockspring." It's POSSIBLE this got damaged if someone turned the steering wheel too far while the intermediate steering shaft was removed. However unless there's a position sensor of some sort in there for the 5th gen, I can't imagine this ties into...
