Neither, theres a small pin that sticks up from the block right around where your heater hoses go through the firewall, in your first pick it looks like it might even be that light spot you can see just to the left of the connector.
Just found this forum/thread picked up my '96 with 275k and a blown head or head gasket for $1800 in NY. Frame is great body is even better. Had to tow her home and immediately done a JDM swap. Been running strong for a week well see how she does.
