    talk to me about shocks

I went with Fox racing shocks on my whole suspension upgrade. They cost a bit more than the Bilsteins, but I love them in conjunction with my bigger/longer springs. I got my lift parts from Allpro, and they are a splendid bunch of folks there! Great to deal with, and they answered any questions...

    First hunt w/ revamped 4runner

Well, hunting season is upon us, and I got to take my baby to hunting camp for Antelope........my ol lady came too!(ba-dum-pssshhhh). Strong winds, 25-40mph, and lots of hills rendered us 12.9mpg. The new suspension was really great on the beat up, and wash boarded dirt roads. The ranchers...

Best way to do a kill switch?

If I had one.......my kill switch would interrupt the starter signal. The truck won't even crank, to drain battery......Turn key in ignition and Nothing happens at all. Dash lights come on, but that's all.

    big tires/milage math???

Okay, we did a mileage check, using the highway mile markers vs. my odometer. Seems like a 10% difference is about right. We register 10% less miles than we travel, and we got about 14mpg. This was in my typical mountain terrain, but mostly on the highway, over mountain passes, and high...

    Paint Jobs

I wanted to maintain mine as a "Go-er, not a show-er" so it can be a truck. new paint tends to make men treat their rigs, like a girl treats "new nails." Not for me. So when I rebuilt my rig, I just rattle canned the sum*****. But I went totally nuts on it....painted the engine bay, all...

    The Volunteer 1985 22REC Build

For how you use it, I wouldn't change anything unless it's broken. Maybe get some durable BFG 31x10.5 tires. Its a fully capable rig for what you plan on doing. Winch might be handy to add.

'Bout as redneck as it gets, Fishin' from the rig, with the half doors!

Take the body lift off of a 85 4runner

Holy, Can-o-Worms, Batman!!! With bigger springs, the mounts get moved, and old mounts generally get cut off. This goes for shocks as well. There is the first issue. You will most likely have to re-center the axles as well. You are looking at twice the hours and work, at least, here. I just did...

    big tires/milage math???

That's exactly my point......there is no possible way for me to be getting anything over 20mpg in my rig now. Something strange is afoot. I need to top off the tank and do another mileage check. I think a number was written down incorrectly. If I did 215 miles (not315) on 11.5 gal., that would...

    big tires/milage math???

Thanks, I'll try that. The rig is an '85 4runner with original gearing, I haven't changed that yet.

    big tires/milage math???

I put 33' tires on, and I know that I can add 10% to my speedometer to get an accurate idea of my speed. For example, 50mph on the dial is 55mph on the road, What about my odometer reading? According to my odometer we went 315 miles on 11.5 gallons of gas....that seems way high, but if I take...

    And so it begins...4runner revamp!

Stock mirror from my '85 4runner. We got up to around 8,450ft elevation this weekend to camp, and escape the dense smoke from all of the forest fires. I enjoyed Geeking out with my altimeter, angle device. It is surprisingly accurate. Everything worked well, and even with uphill, against the...

    And so it begins...4runner revamp!

Maybe it's time to post this picture of the transformation.... Still not "done", no lockers yet....no "this, no "that", it goes on and on..... Anyway a sort of Before and after of my rig. Got it at New Years of 2011.
