Aluminum shavings in oil after new heads

Well I changed the oil after 100 miles. There were a few flakes but MUCH less than before. After the oil change I took the 4runner on a road trip to Maine from Virginia and it hasnt missed a beat. Even took it to Canada for a day!

Aluminum shavings in oil after new heads

Well I took the valve covers off and everything seems fine. I also checked the coolant and it had some aluminum flakes in there too. I will do a few flushes and report back in 100 miles or so.

Aluminum shavings in oil after new heads

Thanks for the replies. I never thought to clean the heads. I have been trying to think what would be wearing so fast, so I guess it makes sense that a bunch of left over material could have been in the oil galleys. Is does seem like a lot of material though... welfare_wag- I was pretty liberal...

Hi all, I just replaced the heads on my 1999 4runner due to my previous pair being cracked. Started it up for 1 minute and then flushed the oil. To my horror the oil was full of sparkles (small aluminum flakes, non-ferrous). I filled the engine up with oil again and ran the engine for 1...

    Head Gasket/Head vs Rebuilt Motor

Welp! It looks like my head gaskets have gone too. Whats weird is that when I did a leak down test cylinders 3 and 4 resulted in a geyser from my radiator. The rest of the cylinders were great. Is it common for the gasket to go out on both sides of the engine? Also does anyone have a sense...

Starter Not Disengaging sometimes. Best replacement?

Not sure if you have popped that sucker out yet, but you can unbolt the starter, move it to the side, and rebuild it though the wheel well. Prett easy and cheap

Another bilstein 4600 thread - road use

Ive had 4600s on my first gen and 3rd gen and I love them. If you are thinking of rear coils old man emu is the route I went and they have been great.

    Rebuilt, remanufactured, or JDM engine?

Looks like I'm in a similar situation. 1999 limited with compression of 90 psi on cylinder #6. No coolant loss and "wet" test didnt raise the psi, so I suspect its a burnt/stuck/cracked valve. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for reasonably priced rebuilt heads? Also those who...
