I did pulleys, hydraulic tensioner, cam shaft seals, crank shaft seal, crank shaft bolt as Toyota doesn’t recommend reusing the original as it’s torqued to 217 ft lbs. Thermostat (don’t forget the gasket, radiator if it’s original, and that should do it!

If the frame is good and the oil has been changed they will go forever with regular maintenance! Just a couple things to watch for is the radiator. Replace it as the tranny cooling lines corrode and create “pink milkshake”. Timing belt, all 3 drive belts, valve cover gaskets will leak...

FWIW the craigslist here in Minnesota is full of 4runners needing frame repairs. I think they are like the tacos. Especially on the frame weld spot next to the muffler.

Is keep it forsure. I’d use the extra money for vacations and making yours just the way you want it!! That way you have a unique truck and if you buy a new one it just looks like every other person that’s driving a new one. Nostalgia! Good luck.

I like conventional oil in my old rig. The pros of this in my opinion is that I get to get a thorough look at my truck every 3-5k miles. With synthetic you may go almost a year before having to change the oil. Just my 2 cents. Also I think the leaks will exacerbate with synthetic.

Sounds like with a little tlc, you have found a good rig! Frame is the bigges issue check the weld spot on the passenger side next to the muffler. Check and see when the timing belt was done and if it has not been done, figure that into your coat to purchase.

I have 257k on my 2001 limited 4x4. Just did the timing belt job this weekend myself. It was the original belt, pulleys and water pump! I bought it 18 months ago with 238k. Love these trucks!!
