I don't have my 22RE 4Runner to look at anymore, but if you have not done it already and the PS belt is not the one that drives the water pump, you could disconnect that belt and run it to high rpms to see if the noise is eliminated. That way you would be closer to determining the culprit.

Nice work. When the stock bumper rusted out on my 1985 I purchased a aftermarket diamond plate step bumper for a ranger, cut off the mount brackets and welded on new fabricated brackets. The bumper was stronger and more solid than the OEM and showed very little signs of rust after 15 years.

WallyWest, Thanks for the reply and very clear explanation. Without seeing an exploded diagram of the front diff and transfer, I would assume the engagement for the front driveshaft would just be a sliding collar that connects two splined shafts, one in the diff and one in the transfer case...

Thanks JayRolla, that is good information. You are absolutely correct about moving forward with the times. I know the 3rd gen was a solid platform, but I do like a lot of the features and upgrades of the 4th gen (new aluminum V6 and rear discs to name two). At this point I am leaning that way...
