Great info! Shoot I think you could get a good deal on a set of Cometic gaskets down there for that motor cheaper than the other, but I could be wrong... 700... wow...what does a motor run down there? 70,000? Interested in seeing that 2 piece sump. I agree when I first read the manual...

My sisters had the same results when I tested it... I'm willing to bet you are in the same boat.

I'm not going to be a dick, but the truth behind recalls on safety based issue is deaths/incidences per 1000. Don’t believe me, go do a little digging. Manufacturers usually only recall parts related to safety, and you will be hard pressed to get them to cover anything related to mechanical...

Hmm.. I'm not sure to be honest. You may be correct in your assumption. I think it may be a bit difficult to hit that exact tooth on the main chain when setting the motor to TDC and orienting the cams properly on the head. I bet it can be done, and maybe the only reason it hasn't been written...

I do not get notifications to this site, and check back time to time... I'm sure you are already done with the job, but for future work. Stan at Rocky Mountain Machine does top notch work. He is worth every penny and does not sluff on any detail.

    *** V6 Head Gasket Action Request ***

What is the end game here? And are you requesting replies by PM or so the general public can see it all. Just was wondering.

I do want to add a bit of comedy to this thread. I forgot to mention that after this work was complete, she took it back into the dealership for a free inspection since she was headed to the insane state of California for an internship with apple. Low and behold those fuks came up with a laundry...

Yeah I was pretty blown away how tight it was... I have busted loose Detroit Diesel headstuds with much less effort. My modified wrench was just a standard wrench that I shaved to fit snugly by tapping on. I snapped mine breaking the passenger side loose, I was happy it snapped before it broke...

Glad to hear its going well! Good point, if you don't have an impact, just break it loose while the belt is on there. If you forget, I have used belt/chain wrenches to hold pulleys fixed while cracking a bolt loose. I do forget not all have impacts, however I'd never do a job without them...

Nice work, wish I would have been as thrifty as yourself on finding better prices on the parts! I'm just east of Parker, so a bit away from you. I need to go through and clean it up a bit, riddled with grammar errors and repetition of reference the manual. Hard to see it all on a little phone...

No offense, but I find it very unlikely Toyota will do anything about this.... 16 internet pages and most over 100k being 10 year old vehicles.... I'd be willing to bet 99.9% of my lunch money they won't. Get it fixed, fix it yourself and move on.... I don't work for a dealership...

I have added the last of my write up. Not sure if there is much else I can attribute that you won’t already know upon reassembly. If there is I can definitely add it in, but I think it’s the best advice I can give.

I see you are in CO... where abouts? That is the list of parts you need... I will say since I am an OEM guy, that it may be worthwhile replacing with an OEM pump... some of the aftermarket ones may last 4, 40, or 140k, but I seem to see a lot of vehicles brought in with box store parts failing...

Great pics! I will get to the caps and cups further in. Thank you for adding! Just curious as to why your internals appear to be so dry, and/or reddish, was that how much coolant your were bypassing out of the water jacket?? Run a silkolene oil? Snapping a chain is no bueno!

Agreed, Doing it once and then doing it again I figure anyone can get the process down to 50-60% of their time on the first attempt. I agree with ya on the pump, not necessary, hers was in bad shape though and whining a bit. My digital torque wrench was maxed at 250 ft/lbs when we measure the...
