It overhangs in the front by a few inches, but not so much that it’s very noticeable. Correct it doesn’t touch the tailgate when opened either. I believe the Roam 8ft is actually a 7.75”.

You might as well bite the bullet and get a new rope, sounds like the one you have may have had a lot of UV exposure. That or you put it off and utilize the cable that comes on your new winch for a while.

How old is this synthetic rope you’re pulling off the old winch and what kind of condition is it in?
