I also own a 2002 Corvette auto. It does nothing like the 4runner does at idle. It idles at about 500 rpms and the a/c has little affect on the rpm's. It hardly moves when idling and I let my foot off the brake. That's why I thought the 4runner idle so excessive. This is our second toyota...
I am having the same issues with my 2005 SR5 V8. Wish I would have noticed the idle on a test drive--I would not have bought it. Dealer told me this was normal. At a stop it fluctuates up and down between about 500 and 750 rpm's with A/C on. IMO this is extreme. Can't believe Toyota...
The best I've seen is the 2000 cash back(v8) or 3.9/60. I just bought mine for dealer invoice plus the cash back. Still got a decent interest rate too.
Just a thought. Many dealers are wanting to sell the last of the 05's now, so you may be able to get a good deal on a new one. I just bought a SR5 V8 with about $2000 worth of options(sunroof, side airbags, etc) for 28,000.
