    New owner of an '86!

Bought it a few weeks ago and it was delivered last weekend. Much to do on it, but overall it's pretty solid. I'm quite happy. I've already started a thread here, if anyone chooses to follow: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/wish-me-luck-pulled-the-trigger-on-this-86-today.1069416/

    Let's build something.

Are you in KY? I've had to get duplicates from the courthouse and Frankfort when I couldn't find them. It only took a few weeks. So it shouldn't be hard for a seller to get one. If the seller is in KY, the signed and notarized title will do. Easy. Now bring in a car from out of state, and it...

    Rear cargo holder???

There's been problems like this for decades with wagons. It's not only the proximity of the exhaust. With all the windows up but with the back open, as the vehicle moves the outside air turbulence creates a vacuum which sucks the exhaust with its carbon monoxide right inside. If you run with...

    MPG Calculation...

In addition to tire size and distance, I'll add this. Fill the truck at a gas station until it stops. After you drive around, go back to that same pump and fill until it stops again. Not all pumps stop at the same point.

Who has had sex in their 4runner?

I've always wondered if leather seats might inspire B&D in some people? This reminds me. When the Merc Marquis was around, Car and Driver would lament every year in their new car issue that no De Sade option package was available...

    Automatic transmission 2nd gen 4runner

Some hints, but these wont help the mileage. There are 3 different ways to control the 4Runner's A/T: The PWR switch will space the shift points farther apart. It works like a Load/Haul Switch in domestic trucks, Good with a load or a tow. Improves acceleration a tad. Disengage the O/d. Much...

    Yet another 1 ton build!

I think it went company wide. On my 2000 LC when the door opens the map lights stay off. If your door is shut, map lights only- unless you want to reach back and turn the midship on in the headliner.

    1992 T4R 2LT slow build

As to the undercarriage, give it a good wash- maybe twice. I've had dust ah mud masquerade as rust until I really looked at it. One of my vehicles came from Alabama where there is red clay mud all over. I thought the frame had surface rust until I scratched it and saw paint. I washed the...

    1992 T4R 2LT slow build

I've had pipes like that in the past. One trick I used was clamp behind a corroded section- the pressure will stress the clamp hose and pipe section. obviously it will leak if clamped at that "V" at the end, but if you have enough solid section behind, it should be fine. You might want to use as...

Performance Enhancements for 2nd Gen 3.0L??

For the geeks out there, has anyone calculated the airflow efficiency of the stock exhaust manifold? Also, I don't have to worry about emissions, so what about a straight no cat dual exhaust setup? I bring this up because a few years ago I wondered if the performance of the 305 V6 in my '69 GMC...

Performance Enhancements for 2nd Gen 3.0L??

If you look back through automotive history around 1970-71 you can see how much loss is caused by accessories- engines with real world loads. Back in the day, makers dyno'd an engine "naked" with no fans, or accessories of any sort for the SAE gross rating. Then the SAE went to net- rating the...

    trans doesn't shift

I'll keep this in mind. The one I'm looking at seems to be a sluggish shifter.

    3vze bad gas mileage

FWIW, our company cars are Chevy Equinoxes, AWD and FWD. On an average work day, I can get 27 MPG at best with my AWD, when I drive a FWD from the lot I can get 32. The FWD is zippier too. So, getting power to all four wheels has its price. Weight and drag, I guess.
