    Michelin LTX M/S 2

I had the LTX MS2's put on a few months ago, so probably approaching 10K miles on them. I had the Dunlops until about 55K, then switched to Goodyear Fortera Tripletreads and those went until about 120K (still had some life on them, but wanted something new before winter), and now of course the...

Why not use 100k mile plugs to replace the 30k mile plugs in the V6?

I might be totally off here, but my neighbor down the street used to be a Toyota mechanic and I think he told me once after he replaced my 4Runner plugs that the reason the V6 doesn't use 100K plugs like the V8 had something to do with engine heat. Again, I didn't get into a detailed discussion...

    Wheel bearing symptoms

Does the noise go away if you turn slightly left or right? If so, it's probably a wheel bearing.

Mystery issue-- need help-- is it the bearing? The front diff? The new axle?

I don't know about the vibration at idle, but almost certainly the other issue that goes away when you turn your steering wheel is a front wheel bearing.

    Caliper rattles/clanks

Add me to the list with the same noise, only going in reverse, not getting particularly worse. I am in need of a brake job within the next few months, so I'll be asking about that noise when I bring it in.

Anyone changed there own front Wheel Bearings on a 4th gen yet???

I can tell you my neighbor is a Toyota mechanic and he had to heat up the bearing with a torch to get it out (see earlier post). He said if that didn't work he would have to replace the hub and bearing assemblies ("bend over" were his exact words). Fortunately, he was able to get it out by...

Anyone changed there own front Wheel Bearings on a 4th gen yet???

Mine '04 4WD ended up being $350 for my neighbor to do it at his Toyota dealership as a side job. He said he had to put a blow torch to the bearing to get the old assembly out, but he was able to heat it up enough to do it. He said the new bearing assembly was over $200 (dealership genuine...

Anyone changed there own front Wheel Bearings on a 4th gen yet???

I believe I've got a bad front wheel bearing on my 2004 4WD too. It's rolling 123K tomorrow. A friend down the street works at a Toyota dealer (used to do mechanic work) and does some side jobs, so he's taking it in to replace it for me, assuming that's what it is. It makes a grinding noise that...

Firestone Destination A/T vs Goodyear Fortera Tripletred

IN the same boat I'm glad I found this post, but I'm not sure how much help it's given me because it appears to be about a tie LOL! Actually, the opinions are very informative. I will be in need of some new tires within the next few months. I replaced the stock Dunlops with GY Fortera...
