Trans Replacement - CA vs Fed Emissions

Thread Revival. To answer those prior questions. There are 3 differences in the transmissions produced for the 4x4 models. Differences: 1. Fed vs Cali. - Cali uses different dipstick to manuever around the exhaust and such. Toyota dealer ordered me a new dipstick due to leak; we found out...

How does 2000's auto locking hubs work? And Trail repair question

I have the e-locker, with the 2H/4H button and 4HL + 4LL on the stick. So it does have the center locker and I also was unsure how that affects what components are spinning / engaged when in RWD, then vs when hitting the 4H button.

Hey All, I have a 2000 limited and I was curious if someone could explain the following: 1.) how does the auto locking hubs work and how are they engaged? (by what mechanism, I know you push the button to turn it on.) 2.) In the 2000 limited are the front CVs always spinning no matter if you...

WEIRD: Reverse fine, drive held back then breaks free?

Toyota dealer got back to me, I was correct. It was indeed the rear drums being out of wack causing a lockup situation after cooling in place. Unsure of the exact cause currently but I will ask for more info when I pick it up. The tech experienced exactly what I had said: put it in drive, felt...

WEIRD: Reverse fine, drive held back then breaks free?

You are not wrong! I have had a truck in the past but never even had to think about brakes. First time learning about and dealing with rear drums. I did make an appointment to get it looked at, just worried it wont do the symptom for the mechanic, as today on my lunch break it operated totally...

WEIRD: Reverse fine, drive held back then breaks free?

Okay, I read into the procedures regarding the e-brake, I will check to see if the bellcranks are stuck. Do you have any idea why it doesnt like drive rather than reverse? saw you on tejasrunners thread: Rear drums leaking or just dirty?

WEIRD: Reverse fine, drive held back then breaks free?

Can you explain this a bit more on the adjusting side? confused what to do people are talking about 0.4-0.8 mm gaps, is that when brake is engaged? Also what is the star screw? is there another way to adjust?

Rear drums leaking or just dirty? what do you think about that? Tejas seems to have same issue...

WEIRD: Reverse fine, drive held back then breaks free?

Mine is different, reverse will roll, when put into drive I have tension and torque no free revving, then it feels like it pushes through or breaks free. Totally fine everything else, shifts like butter when cruising and shifts firm when I give it some.

WEIRD: Reverse fine, drive held back then breaks free?

Why would reverse be okay? is it a much higher ratio than 1st gear? I have not inspected the rear drums, would that only be visible by removing? How hard to do? I have before but not all the time, it does have tension on the lever within a few clicks, no slop really. I have no clue what those...

WEIRD: Reverse fine, drive held back then breaks free?

New rotors and pads in front, new torque converter installed not long ago, no drippy leaks, transmission fluid seems full? will check again, no pink smoothie (cooler mod), no CEL
