My 4Runner has developed a similar sound recently. I thought alternator at first but if I were you, I'd definitely check tensioner pulley and idler pulley first.

It still sounds the same just a bit more quiet. I'm more happy about not hearing a loud PING sound every time I go over a bump.

Guys, I updated my original post. Just to answer some questions though, I have had aftermarket exhaust systems on other cars. I had a Fujitsubo exhaust on a Nissan 240SX and a BLITZ on a Toyota MR2.
