Downshifting to use engin brake coming downhill

I am going to assume the OP knows how to downshift by moving the shifter to "S" and then making a quick, momentary pull to the rear to actually do the downshift and a quick, momentary push forward to upshift. I downshift manually all the time when descending steep inclines. Most of the time the...

And the FJ is now Dead

I owned an FJ and it was a ton of fun but I almost ran a couple other vehicles off the road due to the bad visibility. My 4R TE is much better on the road and plenty capable for the limited off-roading I do.

SR5 vs Trail - difference in ride?

IMHO, I think the TE with KDSS handles a lot better. I've been able to swerve to avoid problems without feeling like I was going to roll. It's worth every penny to me.

    Ugh, who does this!!!!

The "pinning" I referred to is using a sharp object to put a hole in the tire sidewalls. They aren't slashing with a knife, just using something like an awl to poke holes in the sidewall. It's not repairable.

    Ugh, who does this!!!!

There are people around who seem to have a vendetta against SUVs. In the Portland, OR area SUV tires are getting "pinned" while autos are not having a problem.

    Sliding cargo tray

No rattles here. I use the tray for staging my photography equipment. It's handy to have it pull out and make everything easily accessible. I use the grocery bag hooks to hold grocery bags containing items which may "escape". Of course those won't work for reusable or paper grocery bags, only...

    Interesting technology

I've been writing software for aircraft HUDs for 30 years and was involved with the development of a prototype auto HUD in the '80s. HUDs provide a safety benefit if they provide data which keeps the person in control of the vehicle looking out the the windshield AND the display is focused out...

    Driving in S mode

I use S mode when going up any incline when between 50 and 65 mph. I encounter several on every commute. Actually increased my MPG from 18 to 19 and I have a more responsive throttle.

    World's STUPIDEST design blunder...

I use the bag hooks with plastic food bags. When the hooks are full I tie the "handles" on the plastic food bags into a knot to capture the contents.

    Rear Windshield Wiper

If on a Windows machine hold down the Alt key and type 0176 on the keypad, not the top row numbers. Or you can go to All Programs/Accessories/System Tools from the start menu and click on Character Map. Then click on the degree symbol, click Select, click Copy, and paste it into your post. If...

    Heated Windshield Issue

I would be surprised if they will cover this if the currently installed windshield is not a Toyota windshield. The previous owner probably had it replaced and their insurance sent them to a third party to get the replacement. I would check the paper work on your warranty looking for excluded items.

Rear Window and Side Mirrors Defogger Not Working

This sounds like a bad connection is acting like a resistor, dropping some of the power to the heater elements. A simple continuity check will probably not detect this. It could be a bad switch(contact problems) or connections to the switch. Check for the switch being warm to the touch. Also...

    Door seal failure?

Well, the dealer fixed the weatherstripping. But I had to return to the dealer a couple hours later to have the trim piece covering the SRS on the A post put back into place as the top of the trim popped out. There was no way I was going to fool with an airbag cover. It now fits better than it...
