I'm curious about this, too. What makes D-shackles better than using your tow hitch? More secure attachment?

I don't understand this bit. How is towing different from recovering? Either way you want to pull a vehicle, right? If I had to pull somebody up a slope or out of a hole, I'd hook up a tow strap to my tow hitch (that's what it's designed for, right?), go into 4wd, and pull with a slow, steady...

I've had an '02 Pathfinder since '04. I have nothing but good things to say about it. Since I got my 5th gen 4Runner last month, I'd say the Pathfinder feels like a little brother to it: similar level of refinement in the interior, less powerful V6, stable on snow and dirt, fine for basic...

How intense does this get? I've driven in on-road snow w/4wd a fair bit, and in basic dirt roads around these hills, but nothing anyone could call a challenge. Does the snow now preclude anybody with the stock Duratracks?

Yeah, that'd be fun. My SR5 is stock, but I imagine there are some service roads around here I could handle. Sounds great.
