4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

Yeah, I've thought about the supercharger, but it's just too costly for me. And I'm hesitant to go too crazy with aftermarket stuff, especially for something like the engine. Someone told me that Toyota makes a TRD supercharger that wouldn't break the factory warranty, but I haven't been able to...

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

What model 4Runner do you have? My TRD Off Road has an air intake through the wheel well, so it should already be a CAI if I'm not mistaken. I'm no expert though, so take it with a grain of salt :-)

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

I just got back from a trip to the Sierras. Towed the trailer probably 500 miles, up to 7,000+ ft elevation at the highest pass. It certainly was a lot more enjoyable with the more responsive throttle, but I still wish I had lower gearing or a lot more torque. It's pretty annoying to listen to...

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

I think you need to read the original post again. I never said that I towed the trailer with the Pathfinder. Although, I find the slightly lower gearing much more pleasant in the Pathfinder... I bought the 4Runner to replace the Pathfinder since it's pretty old and worn with many miles on the...

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

I did end up buying a Pedal Commander and installed it yesterday. It sure makes the 4Runner a lot more fun to drive even if it doesn't give me more HP or torque :-)

Who said that? I said it's still running fine.

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

Are you saying you can drop a Cummins engine in the 4Runner? Or were you referring to the Ram truck? I read somewhere that it has 900+ pound feet of torque. I have not looked into the Lexus GX, but I'm guessing it's up there in price with the Land Cruiser.

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

Right now, I'm leaning towards a Tundra. Even with a more responsive throttle, I'm not sure the 4Runner is the best vehicle for towing my trailer which weighs about 2,400 lbs fully loaded. I guess I'd be giving up some 4wd capabilities, and the 4Runner is definitely more nimble than the Tundra...

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

Interesting! I've heard of people doing mods to the factory throttle, especially on 4Runners. I might have to try that. It's not that I'm having lots of problems, it's just that the lack of torque and power is a bit frustrating when towing. I really wish i had 100 more HP and a lot more torque...

Anyone else towing a travel trailer with a 5th generation 4Runner?

Funny, I was just posting something about me wanting to get a Tundra because my 2018 4Runner feels extremely underpowered when I tow my 2,400 lbs camper trailer in the mountains. What's the weight of your trailer? I love everything about the 4Runner, but revving at 4,000 RPM and still only doing...

4Runner underpowered for towing my trailer. Should I get a Tundra?

Greetings. I bought a new 4Runner in 2018, and I mostly love it. Had a Pathfinder for 16 years, but it was time for something new as it has 287K miles on the meter (still running OK). I have 25K miles on the 4Runner, and I've towed my camper trailer behind it numerous times to the Sierras...

Hill Start Assist Control - is it not working, or just a badly implemented idea?

Thanks for all the replies. My personal conclusion is that it's a pretty useless feature. I have no problem driving the car without it, and if I had the option to not get the vehicle equipped with it (knowing how it actually worked), I would have have chosen not to get it. They should have named...

Hill Start Assist Control - is it not working, or just a badly implemented idea?

Greetings. I have a 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium, and according to the manual, it's equipped with something called "Hill Start Assist Control". I thought that it's meant to prevent the car from rolling backwards when you're on an incline and take your foot off the brake. My vehicle has...

How do I block off the air intake for the inside ventilation?

Greetings. I live in a very forested area with TONS of mice everywhere. They like to nest in the cars, and usually rip out strands of the fiberglass insulation from somewhere (firewall?), and build little nests in the air filter box, etc. I've put a piece of wire mesh that prevents them from...

    Mouse in cabin

How do I block the air intake? Greetings. New member here. I bought my 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road in April, and had 10K miles on the meter by October. When I took it in to the Toyota dealer for its first service, the rep told me after the service was completed that rodents had chewed on the...
