Need advice/repair help on 89 Toyota Pickup

Honestly, this forum is great and it has it's place, but for the guy with engine or transmission problems this isn't the place to be. There are a few that know what they're talking about around here, but it makes a whole lot more sense to go somewhere where there are hundreds of people that can...

    Somebody help me out here...

I knew a guy that had some American Racing wheels like that but that doesn't mean anything. They all copy each other if it sells. As mentioned try looking on the backside or in the hub for a name or number.

    IFS front 4WD auto-engage mechanism

What shape are the CV's in? The biggest problem with the ADD system is that the hubs are locked all the time and the CV's are always turning. The boots get brittle and rip open and then they CV's wear out from the sand coming in and grease going out. If your front diff is making a big thunk you...

    can i do this?

Look over on yotatech... There are a few step by step pictorial threads on the top end rebuild. It's a big job on the 22RE, but it's a huge job on the V6.

I know that I am not the brightest bulb in the box...BUT..

You say it's taking a long time to build pressure... Are you looking at an aftermarket pressure gauge or listening to the "lifters ticking" when you start it up? If it's the latter, it's not the lifters because it doesn't have any. There's actually a hydraulic timing chain tensioner that has to...

"bolt on" lift kits for 95 4R

No geometry at all. You just start by taking off the wheels and then follow the directions through it. I did a Superlift on my truck with about the same experience you have and it went fine. I just couldn't see paying the local rip off $2000 to install the kit. I ended up getting the lift and...

Why the "No Clutch Engage Button" ?

The thought behind it is that if you stall out in a precarious position you might need the ability to move the truck forward with the starter until it's safe to start it. Think of being stuck on the edge of a cliff and stalling out going towards the edge. You might need to back up a few feet...

    Posi unit recomendations....

In order of cost and performance ( no coincidence ) : ARB air locker Toyota Elocker (have to do a few simple mods to make this one work) Detroit locker Aussie locker Lockright locker I wouldn't fool with a trutrac if it were me. In extreme low traction situations they don't perform much better...

I'm worried this mechanic is trying to screw me - '95 4R engine ticking

Get a second opinion but don't bother for a third. If they agree you have your answer most likely. If it's just ticking it's not really a time bomb yet. I'd run it until it explodes and then get it swapped out if it were me.

    Help!!

There's also a crimp and a fuseable link in the main power cable that routinely goes bad in these trucks too. Go have your battery and alternator checked to rule them out, and then start checking for voltage drops in the system. Lots of info on the cable problem over at Yotatech.

    need help please!

The '94 parts won't work on a '96 runner though. I know the trucks went to the next gen in 95.5 but I'm not sure about the runners. As long as it's the same body style the parts will interchange.

    Radiator questions

Yep, if a pressure test didn't turn anything up I'd be doing a compression test.

What makes the 2nd gen. so offroad capable?

Did you click the link in his sig and see his truck? And I never compared my lift/tire combo to his even in the slightest manner. I mentioned my tire size in reference to your comment that IFS couldn't handle big tires. Btw, there is at least one person on Yotatech running 35's on a runner...

What makes the 2nd gen. so offroad capable?

When the hell did I say anything about "minimal lift"? I'm locked in the rear and open in front. I don't go offroad as much I used to but I still go every chance I get. Btw, since I made the sig I actually dropped the truck by the bj spacers in front and the 4" blocks in back. The truck is a...
