The cruise control actuator connects directly to the throttle valve. It is entirely plausable that there is a short somewhere in the "accel" command circuit. I would disconnect the cruise control cable asap.

My first thought is that you have either have some type of electrical short or mechanical failure that led to an inadvertent/uncommanded acceleration actuation of your cruise control. If I was in your position, I would disconnect the cruise control actuator mechanical linkage from the throttle...
