Transmission Fluid (tricky situation) (muddy fluid)

No offense to the previous posts, but I was told by the PO of my now sold ‘99 with 317K miles not to change the fluid. Well the trans literally stopped pulling in any gear. So I dropped the pan and changed the shift solenoids and the screen and did a complete flush and fill following Tim’s...

I need new inner tie rod, what brand? $$$

I installed all MOOG parts on my ‘99 front and rear over a year ago. No issues at all. New owner is also very pleased with the ride. I told him we need to replace the LBJ’s at 50K just to be safe.

    Water pump/timing belt question

I made my crank pulley holder with a piece of 2x4.

    Water pump/timing belt question

Just did mine a few weeks ago. Yes you have to remove everything off the front the of the engine. Fairly big job. As has been mentioned , best to replace everything...it’s all off anyway. Transmission shifting issue

Recently went through this. Shift solenoids. Truck is running great. New owner couldn’t be happier. Trans or Torque Converter???

Moog rear springs for '02 LTD

I can’t really answer your question on the differences. However, I installed front and rear MOOG coil springs with Bilstein 4600 shocks on my ‘99 4WD and they performed flawlessly. Very nice stable ride. MOOG makes good parts. Maybe not AS good as OEM Toyota, but not enough to justify the cost...

    Trans or Torque Converter???

Thought I would update this thread to close it out. I’ll caveat my statements by saying this may or may not be the solution for everyone, but it was for me. So as I stated I purchased a used transmission with a supposed 56K miles. I got halfway through the removal of my trans and starting...

Lower Ball Joints and Higher Mileage

Heed the advice given here. I learned this lesson the hard way before I knew it was even a thing. Catastrophic failure. Thankfully I was only traveling about 30MPH on a local street. At highway speeds it would have likely been deadly.

    Brief shimmy/sway/wobble when I press/let off accelerator

Rear Lower Control Arm bushings...every time I have experienced this on SUV's equipped with a 4-Link type suspension. Replacing the arms or the bushings will solve the problem.

    Trans or Torque Converter???

Never changed the fluid. Was advised against it by a local transmission shop due to the miles on the truck. Also, I never received any warnings on the dash regarding the trans or trans temp. Rarely used for towing...at least by me.

    Trans or Torque Converter???

Yes it had codes for shift solenoids. I have a used transmission that supposedly only has 59K miles on it. The internals and the screen do look very clean compared to mine. I suppose I could swap the solenoids to my trans, flush the system, install the new screen I purchase and give it a test...

    Trans or Torque Converter???

My ‘99 has 316K miles on the clock. Recently the trans started making some weird noises. Over a few weeks period it started getting slow to shift into R and D. After engaged it shifted and drove fine. After a few weeks of that it finally stopped pulling. It will now only barely creep when...

    Epic Fail

Very valid points there. Thanks for posting. Regardless, I will be keeping a much closer eye on them now. Mine failed exactly as you describe, less than 40MPH on a smooth downtown road. I have never engaged the 4WD. I suspect the first owner may have since he owns a lot of hunting and farm land...

    Epic Fail

    Ok! What he said then.

    Epic Fail

I would do what most everyone here recommends. Inspect them every 100K miles. If any play or deterioration at all is detected, replace them all.
