Totaled 2002 Limited last night. Worth parting out?

Appreciate the well wishes for the wife! She's ok although she did break both arms, so the recovery will take a while, but it could have been much worse given the severity of the accident. According to the officer, the truck rolled over 8 times across a distance of about 150 ft. No other...

Totaled 2002 Limited last night. Worth parting out?

So my wife totaled my 4Runner last night. I put a new engine in it 2 years ago and it was in great mechanical condition with maybe 20k miles on the new engine. Engine was a JDM importing with about 60k (kilometers on it) before I installed it. So I'm wondering if it would be worth it to...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

Quick update. Truck has been running great for the past couple of weeks and wife is reporting that mileage seems to have improved quite a bit. Did a 200 mile oil change this past weekend, and the oil coming out looked great. So today wife reported the check engine light came back on. So I...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

Thanks! Ok, so I wrapped up this project this afternoon. New front and rear O2 sensors and fuel filter: Sure wish there was as shut off valve or something to keep from getting soaked in gas when doing the fuel filter. The tank was full, which I'm sure didn't help. Since my LBJ's were...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

Dash LEDs done. I went with white and really like the look. Since all 4 bulbs in the AC controls have been burned out for years as well, I figured I might as well do those while I was at it. Did the key ring and shifter light as well. Just waiting on the front Air Fuel Ratio Sensor and...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

So this morning I went for a quick drive and gradually the ticking noise changed and after about 2 minutes, it was completely gone! Here's what it sounds like now: https://youtu.be/eqzUAqK6jgs So I put the front grille and hood back on and tidied up everything. I'm running a mix of 10W30...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

I installed new o-rings and insulators on my original injectors and added just a dab of dielectric grease so that they would pop in easier. The JDM injectors are the identical model number to what I have: Another view. The dirty one is the JDM. Fuel rails and wiring harness installed...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

I'm not really keeping track of my time, but I know the cost. I'm probably right around $2000 right now between the engine, parts and tools. As for hours, I would guess I'm probably well past the 20 hour mark. But a lot of that time was cleaning up stuff that would not be done if a shop was...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

4runz, no the sludge was not really all that bad in the JDM oil pan. I was expecting it to be after seeing the top of the heads. Finally had a chance to work on the JDM some yesterday, getting it ready to drop in. New timing belt, water pump, tensioners, etc installed: Front covers back on...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

Those 8 holes are drilled all the way through, so I definitely want to use some sort of thread sealer on them. From what I can tell, if the oil level was high enough in the oil pan, the oil would drain out those holes.

I believe there is just motor oil on the other side as far as I know. I had that thread sealant laying around (as you can see the tube looks rather old and dirty). Perhaps I should just just blue Locktite instead, or?

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

Ended up picking up this Irwin extractor set to deal with the plug: Put a 1/2" drive 12 point socket over the square end of the extractor, adapted up to 3/4" drive, and then used a 3/4" ratchet and it came right out. With that out of the way, it was time to replace the main rear seal and...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

Spent the last few hours reading up on these Everlast units LOL, and it seems that this guy (all digital version came out in 2016) might be the cat's meow: PowerTIG 185 (DV) - TIG Welders | Everlast Generators

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

You know I have been looking for an excuse to get a welder and this might just be it! Would a small DC stick welder be what you would want for a job like this? Like something like this perhaps? POWERARC 200ST - Stick Welders | Everlast Generators That looks to be stout enough to also handle...

Overheated due to leaking radiator, getting misfires after installing new radiator

Had a little time today to work on the JDM engine. 1st I moved the oil filter hollow stud from the old engine to the JDM. Takes a 12mm hex drive. Next I removed the oil cooler and soaked it in diesel for about an hour. Next I dropped it into a bucket of Evapo-rust. Plan to leave it there...
